I. What is Salvation?Salvation is deliverance from the power and penalty of sin through the belief in Jesus death, burial and

resurrection and accepting Him in your life.

Romans 10:9-10” Confess with your mouth the Lord Je-sus, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that

God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justi-

“I want to start off by thanking God who’s my number one always and that will never change. I always knew about God but I never really believed in him as much as I do now. I always hesitated and always doubted myself and him. Then I always caught myself questioning God, which we are not supposed to do. That is not believing. At times I would close my room door and feel lost. I would just cry all day alone without knowing why. I started to hate myself and everyone around me. I felt locked up and hurt. But I know why now and that is because I was missing the Lord in my life. I never knew how easy it was to find a good friend which was him. I would always go through so much issues whether in school, work or family, but I didn’t real-ize that all along there was a big God who could of taken care of all that. I’ve been through a lot in the past and once I’ve met God truly I have fewer problems than before. Yes my problems are still there somewhat but how else am I suppose to become stronger in faith for God if there weren’t any? How else am I going to become stronger within myself? So I’m glad he puts me through them now. They just bring me even closer to him.. It was never too late and now I know my God and I’m glad I did. He’s changed my life in so many ways.

MY Testimony“Being a Christian isn’t easy. If you’re a teen you know what I’m talking about. You go to church saying God you know what I’m going to change my ways and give it up to you. Then when you get to school it’s another story. It’s challenging!! And till this day I still have trouble with that at school but you know I know God is going to help me get through this. And for guys and girls I know there’s this cute guy or girl at church and all you want to do is impress them. Don’t impress them. Impress God he is the one that’s going to bless you not them. And when you get close to God the devil is going throw tough obstacles at you that will make you want to stop coming to church. But you know what I’m a witness to it all and I’m here to tell you that God is the way to go. My name is Raul Robles and I’m 14 years old. “

There’s no room for me to describe him he’s just every-thing. I can write a full page or more about him because he just means that much to me. He makes me feel safe and I can rely on him for everything. Just thinking of him makes me smile. I’ve been going to church since I was small but I was raised catholic where I had to take classes to do my commu-nion and had to confess in a box to a priest. I never liked it very much. The fact that I had to confess my sins to a guy I hardly knew was uncomfort-able. I mean we should confess our sins to one person and one person only, that man is our God. He knows us more than anybody. But as I grew up I learned to make decisions for myself. I decided to try an-other church and that was my cousins church. Ivette brought me and my sister there and I started to like it. There was a youth group my age and I de-cided to start going there. The more I went the more I got se-rious about the lord. Until one

day I accepted Jesus Christ and was filled with the Holy Spirit. I don’t remember what hap-pened but I know that it was a great feeling. That’s when I knew God was the love of my life, that’s when I knew God was no joke, and that’s when I knew his plan for me has start-ed. I have a better mind set and I think differently about life. I now love going to church and I’m happy for where he’s brought me to so far. He’s blessed me and I can’t wait to see what he has planned for me. I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Now I leave you with this, always remember that your problems are so small to the Lord. Whatever you may be going through leave it in his hands and you will see what you will get when you leave it all up to him. When I left it to him he’s brought nothing but blessings in my life and he gave me strength. Now what more do you want then God? He’s all ready everything.”- Stephanie Cruz

MY Testimony

Page 11: YOFMAG- APRIL/ MAY 2009

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when-ever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith de-velops perseverance. Perseverance must fin-ish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything”. James 1:2-4This scripture is hard to share with some-one who is dealing with a trial in their life. I received a message this morning from a dear friend who went through a very traumatic time in his life almost a year ago. He said:“Who would’ve thought that I would have the relationship I have with God. The more I struggle the more I lean on him and I have grown so much spiritually due to this struggle. We have the power to take a nega-tive situation and turn it to a positive one.”

A few months ago, there was a lot of blaming, screaming and tears. But to-day he started a new chapter in his life.

Don’t get me wrong, God usually doesn’t al-low a fast pitch blow straight for the heart so we learn to lean on him and build our faith. Those painful blows to the chest are usually the results of human choices and consequences. However because WE can’t deal with the situation at hand we tend to look for a higher power that can, and that’s when we find ourselves face to face with God.

When it comes to our bodies, when we feel pain we know something needs to be addressed, so we visit a doctor. Our painful blows in life, that no mortal doctor can treat, also require the same attention. If you broke your leg, you wouldn’t sit at home waiting for it to heal on its own, so when our hearts are broken why do we neglect seeking proper treatment? And even after the healing there is usually some therapy, so why do we ignore the spiri-tual therapy? Time doesn’t heal, God does.

The beauty of this all is that the above scrip-ture will seem harsh in the beginning of the story. However, a few pages later through time, maybe a chapter later, we find ourselves look-ing back saying, “Wow, I wish I knew to keep sight of the hope at the end of the struggle”.

So whatever you’re dealing with now, keep sight of the hope. You may not see it right now, but in time with God’s help you will find yourself looking upon much good that sur-faced from this negative situation. One of my favorite writers Margaret Manning once wrote, “We will not be delivered from the suf-fering of the wilderness, but through God’s help we can be transformed by it.” You will look back and note God was there the entire time, and smile recognizing how He gave you a gift as if trying to comfort you, His child, from this pain, Like a GOOD FATHER DOES. He loves you. To God be all the Glory!

youth talk “Of course you all know of our youth’s step team “Soldiers of god; Army of praise”. Well, this testimony is about a dream of mine, that can mean a whole lot and I believe God gave me this dream for a good reason. In my dream, the step team were in a classrooms sitting at desks just chillen, and there was two guys there that I guess were a part of the team but their faces weren’t familiar. This big guy comes in and he pulls out a gun, and we’re all getting scared and confused and he looks around and shoots the two guys we didn’t know. And everyone else was just worrying about our own lives like, we were all saying “how am i going to get out of here”, “how am i going to save myself” . We weren’t making plans to save all of us, we were being selfish, and the man this whole time is threatening us. This may sound funny but, when I looked down...there was a bowl of cereal in front of me. It was actually a bowl of cheerios. I grabbed the bowl and brought it close to my chest and hugged it. And as I did that the man with the gun stared at me and dropped his gun, and ran towards me, he tried to take it away....he lost his focus. The way I interpreted this dream was like the man with the gun was the devil, and the 2 boys that he shot, were two people that fell, and were attacked. (I won’t say who I think they are). But the main thing I got out of this dream was that when the man threatened us we worried about ourselves. And not anyone else, we weren’t united so we couldn’t find a way out of the problem. But if we had acted together like a step team should we could have came out on top and got out of the situation and defeated the devil. Now, the bowl of cereal, personally i think has a really important meaning. I’m not totally sure what exactly it represented but I did get this out of it: Cheerios as we all know, is good for your heart, but whatever it represented, it distracted the devil, made him lose his focus because he wanted the cheerios. And that gave us the power to act against the devil because we had the power and it was his weakness. Whatever that bowl of cheerios meant it’s what we need. It could be unity, power, love or even represent God. Either way, we need it. We need to keep this dream in mind because, the devil doesn’t want us to be united and that bowl of cereal is the one thing we need to overcome anything the devil throws at us! “ 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— Ephesians 4:3-4 – Karina of “SOG -AOP”

YOF MAG Comment:I love the cheerios comparison. Ever look at it, it’s a perfect circle. No beginning no end. Just like the word of God, no beginning and no end and it feeds your spirit like cheerios feeds your body. I would say God got some-thing to say through Karina, so listen up!

“I am this I am that. You are this you are that. I know we all have heard this saying before, “You are what you eat or think”. Well it’s true; we all are what we eat. It all starts from your upbringing or what we decide to accept and live with. Some of the decisions we make have a huge impact on our lives and the way people look at us or may I say judge us. It could be a good thing or a bad one. If you see a man or a lady that is very smart and love to read about the word of God and they share their knowledge with the rest, we label them as a pastor a priest or a holy person. But what happened to the one that curses a lot and living their lives like they don’t care about nothing, they are al-ways listening to negative music, nothing good that feeds them a pos-itive image that would bring them a step closer to God. We have many names for them. We are either one of them or used to be one of them.

The whole point is we need to start feeding ourselves with God’s word. How many times a day do some of us spend listening to Gos-pel music or the “good new music”? When asked those questions to several of us we waived through the good news music but glad to say we listen to the negative ones. Well that’s not right at all we have to make time for the Lord. Yeah we go to church on Sundays but that’s not enough. The devil is always attacking and none of us would like to be victims. So our Best bet is to feed ourselves with God so the devil doesn’t label us as his people. If he gives us a task and we do them, we make him believe we are labeled as his em-ployees and his people. We don’t want that right? Exactly so let’s do what we know is right and feed ourselves with the good news. “

Financial Corner

The problem- Us! We just don’t know how to manage money.

The answer- God has plenty to say about finances, there are over 2,350 vers-es on money.

Funny how I learned more about financ-es in college but all of my financial mis-takes were made in high school. I don’t want you to make the same mistake. As a Christian we need to recognize that ev-erything we own is not really ours at all. Everything belongs to God. (1 Chroni-cles 29:11-12).

If we really took to heart this new found knowledge we would treat all of our pos-sessions as if we borrowed it from God ourselves. This is really the reality of possessions, you don’t own it. It all be-longs to God and it was entrusted to you. Every shirt, every penny, every item, you name it, it belongs to HIM!

Therefore, take care of everything you were blessed with as you will be held accountable as to how you treated it. And the next time you get a bill, pay the bill like God himself wrote the invoice. There is a reason why Christ speaks on good stewardship. Not only does it show you how to manage, but the rewards are “good credit”. Debt makes you slave to whom you owe money too. Don’t fall victim to the trap. God wants to bless you to be in the position of the lender. (Deuteronomy 28:1-2,12) But it requires you to be obedient to his word. To God be all the Glory!

Iron Sharpens Iron was a great ex-perience for me. As a young adult I got to spend time with the other men including my dad which was awesome. We got to share this great experience together as a family and as men of God. We heard a wonder-ful preaching by Tony Evans, his preaching pretty much proved how God can take gar-bage and turn it into something good (like our lives, we may think its garbage, but God sees something good from it. We also had great seminars to choose from; one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The morning seminar I choose was called “The Patriot Way” it was given by Don Davis who is the Chaplain for the New England Patriots. He spoke about how you can have success in the world like being fa-mous and having whatever you feel makes you happy, but there is no better success then having Christ first in all that we have or do, and he used a football concept on how to be and stay successful in Christ.

The afternoon seminar I choose was called “Living a Life of Authentic Worship” it was given by Anthony Evans an awesome singer/song writer of worship. He spoke upon living a true life of worship, he gave an example in his life when ev-erything seemed to be going wrong and he was supposed to have a concert that same day and when it was almost time for him to sing he told his manager to let the people know that he couldn’t come out that night,

but then he remembered that once you’re on schedule you must go out and sing, so he started that night by letting the people know how he was feeling and the problem he was going through, that no matter what he was going to praise the Lord, he said he would never forget that night because God took the words that he said and mixed it with his spirit and when it got to the ears of the people; God had touched them deeply. I thank God for the opportunity of going to Iron Sharpens Iron, I hope that as you read this God spoke, and I pray that the next Iron Sharpens Iron event we go to every man in our Church is able to go. God Bless you. Amen! –Andy Collazo

YOFMAG comment:Keep yourself updated on events so you don’t miss out on the blessings.

Event feedback:“Iron sharpen iron was a blessing. This conference made me feel like I wasn’t the only hit, struggling with certain things. The battle is not over. Get up you bum! God is telling us we can get up from any knock down at anytime. It’s time for Gods men to come together and fight. The other blessing I got was being inside that church. I have faith our new temple will be just as big if not bigger. That temple fit 3000, and had classrooms galore. The lord is speaking. Do you hear him?” -Julio Feliciano

Page 23: YOFMAG- APRIL/ MAY 2009

If you walk into the Prim-era Iglesia Bautista Hispana Emanuel on a Friday night you might hear one particu-lar and quite popular wor-ship song which I definitely enjoy. Once you are there, you can witness our pianist being attentive to all the in-credible notes. Two guitars are adding versatility. One can easily feel the percussion inside their inner gut in a way that makes you want to get up and jump. Jump? …I thought we were in church? Iglesia? But wait ….is that a siren I hear …and a couple of oooohaaa , oooohaaa, fol-lowed by content voices all around singing loudly “I AM FREE” ….and screaming even more loudly “ I AM FREE.”

Yes, that’s my favorite song that’s MY church.Well, if you happen to see a big tall lady with black hair just acting a bit crazy; then you have en-tered my world. Yes, my world, because my life and my family’s life basically revolves around my church. Worshipping with youth on a Friday Night is the best part of the week. When the worship leader leads the band to begin I’m already ea-ger to start running or jump-

ing up and down the aisle. Why?? Why so much? Why can’t you just sing or just clap? Guess what? The joy my Lord has put in my heart com-pels me to this mind bog-gling excitement. I AM FREE!!!

What do you think the slaves that traveled at night on the Underground Railroad did when they stepped into Freedom Land? What do you think the prisoner does when they finally take off the shack-les from their hands and feet? Have you ever observed kids

pouring out of their schools at dismissal time? I remem-ber Cuban refugees kiss-ing American ground below their feet when we exited the plane that brought us out of Communist Cuba. When I worship my whole body and soul are in a state of drunkenness that is free from the struggles or sadness that try to weigh me down.

Yes, the joy of the Lord is my Strength! Whether its shouting, stomping, running, jumping, woohooing, or clapping, I just let it all go. I pray I can always praise dance to my God like King David did. I pray I never again

feel foolish or ashamed about moving my body like some elders used to say was disre-spectful. I pray The Holy Spirit gets some of our youth so drunk that they will never care for any other kind of worldly high. I pray that those shack-les that are confining you to those wooden pews disinte-grate into ashes next time you praise the One God Almighty worthy or of all honor and all praise. Scream with me,

“ I AM FREE!!!”
