To the Class of '80:

CAMBRIDGE. MASSACHUSETTS 02139

We wouldlike to congratulate you now on your acceptance to M. 1.T. and the re-ceipt of your first payment of the fiscal year. I hope that you will take this oppor-tunity to commend yourself on your achievement and do some serious thinking abouthow you will make future payments. In keeping with our newly-instituted policy of"The Student as Customer;" we will not do either of these things for you.

FR,ESHMAN HOUSING

Youwill have a choice among two hun-dredand Iorty-se venItvinggr oups.mostof whomhave sent you identical litera-ture. It is your responsibility to decidewho to belie ve and submit the six'Choice ofRestdence cards to the ap-propriate deans by 2pm Sunday, or youwill be stricken from the rolls. If youdonot haveall of these cards, you mustreport to the Bursar's office IMMEDI-~TELY with your cancelled check asproof of payment and fill in one of,theR,ED"Plea for Clemency" cards. Fail-ure to do so will result in your dismissaland irre vocable destruction of yourcomputerized record.

HOUSING PR.OGR.AM

The keystone to satisfactory implemen-

tation of campus housing programs is 'the policy of "growth without fixed .'costs." Essentially, existing and In-sufficiently occupied space shall becontinually sub-di vided until the max-imum floor space to cubic dollar ra- 'tio is attained. Ideally, this will be ahoneycombed structure, with the stu-dent inserted or removed by moderninjection - molding techniques. Thissystem should be fully implementedby the 1976-1977 school season.

Minds shall be kept alert and energyconserved by maintaining a crisp 58-60 degree temperature in dormrooms during the winter months.Working in concert with PhysicalPlant is a necessity. Any resistanceto their instructions will result in im-mediate expulsion and possible pro-secution under the new state law.

If you have any questions about Institute Rules or policy, dtal 3-1746 and listento the recorded message.

Have a nice day!

HrIn order to ease the present studenthousing crisis, MIThas recently madeavailable additional low-cost livingspace. Called stratton House,. it isconveniently located on the west endof campus, close to the armory andfashionable Massachusetts Avenue.

Embodying a new re volutionary con-cept in on-campus-housing, strattonHouse offers not the conventionalchoice of singles, doubles, and triples.Rather, there is one large donut-shapedroom enclosing well over 420 indi vidu-als brought together to form a sticky, gelatinous mass.

Of course, there is also more tradi-tional rooming available, on the floorbelow, where different interest groupsare allowing their former offices tobecome live-in spaces, putting therooms to much more useful purposes. Here are the newest of these "cooper-ati ve li ving acti vities . .,

AMERICANNECR.OPHILELEAGUE

The MIT chapter of the AmericanNecrophile League is organized prima-

serily to provide a pleasant atmospherefor dead people (male and female alike)to meet. We are always looking fornew "members, "but old members willdo if you have any to spare.

It is only very recently that people inthe U. S. have been able to accept theconcept of dead people as human beingswith needs and desires. For years, dead people have been refused employ-ment' harrassed by police, forced in-to pr imati ve medical schemes, andgenerally, treated like meat. To count-er this oppression has required orga-nization and several large freezers.

ANL provides many services. Parti-cular ly for people at MIT, the mostimportant is the Lukewarm Line, atelephone service to provide counsel-ing for people "going under" or 'for stu-dents needing help to determine theirown"rate of spoilage." ANL also pro-vides a center for social life for deadpeople, with dances, parties, and othersocial events frequently held, some-times on campus, and sometimes in ared station wagon parked outside ofBexley.

These acti vities are of three types,Cultural, Social, 'and Other. The firsttype consists of Cultural Events ,Cul-tural Films, and Cultu ral Exhibitions;the second type relates to Social Con-ferences, - Social Films, and SocialExhibitions, and the third type consistsof other things. A general assemblytakes place shortly after Chinese' NewYear where we vote on it.

DINING SER,VICE SOCIETY

MIT EATS IT is a cry heard frequentlythrough the halls of the institute. Thatis where the Dining Ser vice Societycomes in. Formerly known as theModel Bison Society, the MIT DiningSer vice Society is dedicated to theideal that people should not laugh atwhat they eat. You are what you eat,and what you eat, can't eat you, there-fore, eat all you can.' Know, what youeat, and you will-know -yourSelf., Youknow? ,',

Stratton ouse cont.JEWS FOR.JUDAS

JESUS IS DEAD! Strange words for aworld in which everything appears tobe alive, and yet they have a hauntingattraction to them. As men and womenwe often seem torn between a desire. to

MIT FOLK SWEATCLUB

"Boy, it's hot in here. "-Joan of Arc

This is the motto of the MIT· FolkSweat Club, and we invite you to comesee us prove its truth. We jerk spas-tically, at festi vals and any other timeweget together. We are not restrictedto merely standing around in small hotdamp steam rooms smelling bad, butrather we come together as often aspossible in large hot damp-gyms andmeeting rooms and we stink ... but let'snot be unpleasant. In fact, our meet-ings have one main purpose--to sweatlike pigs--and every Sunday night alarge group from all over the New Eng-land area meets to do just that. Halfof the evening is reser ved for simpleperspiring, interspersed with instruc -tion and the other half is spontaneous-,ly arranged for whatever we feel likedoing. We pride ourselves in havingthe lowest rate of spontaneous com-bustion of any acti vity on campus, andour members may frequently be seenfrolicking gaily, wrapped in the car-casses of dead Water Buffalo.

THE MIT SKY - DYING CLUB

"You've got to be crazy to want to jumpout of a perfectly good airplane .. ,

Did you ever jump from a hayloft intoa haystack? Did you ever jump froma 5000-foot hayloft into a two-foot hay-stack? Have you ever jumped from aconstruction site? It was fun, wasn'tit? Or if you haven't done any of thesethings, you've wanted to, at least, be-cause it would be fun.

FUN! That's what sky-dying is all a-bout. Imagine a hayloft thousands offeet high. As you fall, your speedbuilds rapidly until you reach 120 to1so miles per hour, depending uponyour position, until impact. Where-upon you will become a sticky cohe-sl ve gelatinous mass. It's just likefloating on a cushion of earth. You canuse these skills to actually dri ve yourbody through solid rock!

o h Campus <01 House>South Campus cannot be avoided whenconsidering your choice of It ving groupat MIT. Each of the Institute houseshas its own unique environment, but wefeel that in both the physical facilitiesand the spirit of the residents it ranksas one of the most .unusual.

South Campus (also known as "OldHouse") was discovered by Massachu-setts Bay authorities whendragging theriver for a murder weapon over fouryear-s ago. Once located in a fashion-able section ofBoston, it was obscuredIn- the landfill and flooding operationcreating Back Bay over one hundredandfifty years ago. With only minor re-plastering for the inclusion of electricwiring and the replacement of a slightlywater-damaged throw-rug, SouthCam-pus was made ready for habitation onceagain.

Located only 120 feet from the main

building of MIT, South Campus repre-sents an enticing choice to the new stu - .dent unfamiliar with the city. It is thethird-closest Ii vinggroup to campus-its impressive green-brick structureproudly proclaims the fact that it is theonly dormitory in the United States tohave been built more than 50 years be-fore the college it ser ves, Social lifeis acti ve , with many events centeredabout our most prized· facility, the .world' s largest outdoor Indoor $wim-ming pool. Of course, the walk toschool is sometimes unpleasant, but wehave established an excellent ride sys-tem to lessen the inconvenience. Andof course it helps that we are a eli verseyet unified group of 415 individualsbound together to form a sticky, gela-tinous mass. Why don't you stop bythis september, share a few cold beers, and take a look at the place (weatherpermitting). And if you have any ques-tions, please don't hesitate to call orwrite.

"Be it ever so humble, there's no placelike home... 4,

The Number One Club was founded in1927by one of our past presidents seek-ing a tax shelter. Essentially non-pro-fit by nature, weare- seeking to createan atmosphere of elegant social aban-don, where selected people can enjoycommon experiences, and each other, without fear of prosecution.

Being a fraternity, we encourage parti-cipation in activities and chores; but,as a diversified li vi ng group, we mustemphasize the duties of our inferiors. One might even say we are a unitedgroup of indi viduals who enjoy doingthings together separately.

To ensure that not all of our time isspent studying, Number One Club spon-sors numerous social functions. Everyother week, a masked ball is held inthe west foyer; there are many pri vatescreenings of hard-to-see films formembers and their guests (some of us

CI

have even made films of our own.)The term "Negro Roast' has becomequite familiar to us. As one memberwryly obser ved, the food seems to talkextremely fast, although the girls dis-appear faster.

Because of certain legal and financialirregularities, we shall not make ouraddress known, although weare list-ed in Institute publications as a ware-house for soap and toilet paper. Butif we had really wanted to see you, wewouldhave sent a car for you, anyway.

Now's the time to start thinkingabout your future. What do you wantto do in the next four years? Do youwant to be trapped cold and friend-less in a dirty house that sees youonly as a housebill? Or do you wantto live in a clean, cheerful placewhere everybody is your firend andyou can get help whene ver you needit?

If you said "yes l" to the secondchoice, we think you should checkout Gamma Mu Pi fraternity. 1Heare a group of many types of people, many of us deeply in volved in 'MITand outside activities, who have got-ten together in a pleasant li ving en-vironment. Our deep and sincereliking for each other makes us abreathing, organic whole even great-er than the sum of us, the indi vidualparts. There aren't many problemshere, but when one does come up,everyone discusses it at our weeklymeeting where anyone can say what-

Gamma u Piever they feel without fear of bitter-ness. After these sessions, we allfeel much better!

Meals here are a time for good-natured food prepared by a differentbrother each night. ,The hectic paceof MIT doesn't leave much time forconversation during the week, buton Friday and Saturday nights we allget together in the Chapter Room andtalk sing play Monopoly, and do all, , ,sorts of other fun things. But W'1ydon't you come over and meet us?See for yourself. And ha ve a niceday! OK?

a psalone

Hi from the FUN-LOVING brothers atDelta Ipsalon Mu. We're a bunch ofdi verse guys but indi viduals too. Butwe're real close. We're the kind ofguys that get our kicks from overpow-ering the opposition- -it could be theenemy in I. M, football or our datesfrom Wellesley, if you know what Imean. And even if the priest is rightand the meek will "get" the earth,we're doing all right for now. Youknow?

Schoolwork is no "problem" here.Everybody here works together, whe-ther they want to or not, althoughI

unever heard any complaints. Every-body in the house got a 3. 1 e very yearso far.

Weekends are when things reallygetwild around the frat. Friday nighteverybody brings their dates over todinner. If you're ugly or stupid oranything, the other brothers are always <

willing to-help .you get one. The geeksthat print this book won't let ustell youwhat happens after we're done eating, but we can tell you that it's a girl witha cast iron gut who comes back after'we're done with them!

.... .. .

Over the summer we made a big re-pair to the house, We 'rfpped -out all

the carpet. It cost us too much toclean it last year.

The brothers are all a big laugh, except for that weasel Simon. Whenwe go out a bunch of us at a time,we have so much fun we could justabout bust a gut, we laugh so much--and everyone's fair game, evenother brothers.

So if you' think you've got what ittakes, stop by 'DIM at R/O weekand we'll really gi ve you an eyeful.,
