I recommend using a size D/3.25mm hook.

I recommend worsted- or aran-weight yarn in these colors:

dark red, gold, teal, blue, purple, yellow, blond, light brown,

dark brown, dark green, striping green and

various skin tone colors.

If desired, you can work these patterns in continuous rounds,

rather than joining and chaining after each round.

The instructions are written for joining, but feel free to use

whichever method you are most comfortable with!

Polyester Fiberfill Stuffing (available at any local craft store)

Finishing Steps – Complete For All Characters

Use the tail end of the yarn and a yarn needle to sew closed the opening at the base of

the body.

Use the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle to carefully sew the arms onto the body

between rounds 11 and 12.

Weave in all ends for the head, body and arms of the doll.

Use a 6” strand of silver yarn and a yarn needle to carefully embroider the Star Trek

insignia onto the doll’s uniform. See photos for placement if necessary.

Use a strand of purple yarn and a yarn needle to embroider a short spike from the front-

center of the doll’s neck down two stitches. Then use a strand of yarn in uniform color A

to embroider on either side of the purple spike. This creates the illusion of an undershirt

beneath the outer uniform. Weave in ends. See photos for placement if necessary.

Use a strand of yarn and a yarn needle to embroider on any eyebrows, eyelashes or any

other desired facial features.

Continue onto the character-specific sections of this document to finish the finer details of your

doll, such as hair and additional features, such as Tuvok’s ears or Seven’s Borg implants.

along their top edge, as I have done. This helps create a “swept back” kind of look.

Weave in ends.

Borg Implants:

Use a strand of

grey/silver yarn

and a yarn needle

to carefully

embroider the

Borg implants onto

the doll’s face. See

Using the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle,

sew the piece to the doll’s head with the “skinnier”

end towards the back of the head and the “fatter”

end at the top/front of the doll’s head. Weave in

ends.

16

Hair (Long Pieces):

Cut 5 strands of 6” yarn in hair color.

Insert your hook into a stitch in the doll’s hair piece near the back. Start at the very

bottom “tip” of the hair piece. Fold a strand of yarn in half, forming a loop on the

end. Place this loop around your hook. Pull the loop through the stitch.

Yarn over, wrapping both strands of yarn together around the hook.

Pull the strands through the loop, essentially making a chain stitch with both strands.

This knots the yarn. Pull to tighten.

Repeat these steps for all the strands of yarn you’ve cut, working at the back end of

the main hair piece. You’re essentially creating a sort of long “ponytail” at the edge of

the main hair piece. Work the first one at the very tip, then work 2 very close by up

each side of the hair piece.

If desired, you can use a piece of Velcro to “fuzz up” the hair, but be careful not to get

the doll’s face!. If you use the Velcro, you may want to trim the ends afterwards to

make them look frizzy, but tidy.

17

Whiskers (Make 2):

Row 1) In blond, ch 4. Starting in the 2nd chain space from the hook, work 3 sc. Turn

and ch 1. (3)

Row 2) 3 sc. Fasten off. (3)

Use the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle to carefully sew the whiskers onto the

doll’s head. Weave in ends.

If desired, you can use a piece of Velcro to “fuzz up” the whiskers, but be careful not

to get the doll’s face! If you use the Velcro, you may want to trim the ends afterwards

to make them look frizzy, but tidy.

Eyebrows:

Use a strand of light brown yarn (which is darker than the hair color) to embroider on

the eyebrows. If desired, you can use a piece of Velcro to “fuzz up” the eyebrows, but

be careful not to get the doll’s face!. If you use the Velcro, you may want to trim the

ends afterwards to make them look frizzy, but tidy.

Ears (Make 2):

Row 1) In skin tone color, ch 3. Starting in the 2nd chain space from the hook, work a

sl st, hdc inc. Fasten off.

Use the tail ends of the

yarn and a yarn needle to

carefully sew the ears

onto the doll’s head.

Weave in ends.

18

Spots:

Use a long strand of black embroidery thread

and a yarn needle to carefully embroider on

Neelix’s spots. See photos for placement if

necessary. Weave in ends.

If desired, you can use some makeup to fill in

around the spots. I used eyeshadow in purple

along my spot “lines”, then filled in from the

inside edge of the purple towards the rest of the

face with green. If you have yellow, you can fill in further to get a nice bright yellow at

the edge. This makeup does not rub off too easily, but you can try using a setting

spray to help it stay.

Jacket:

Row 1) In uniform color C (jacket color), ch 15. Starting in the 2nd chain space from

the hook, 17 sc. Ch 1 and turn. (14)

Rows 2-3) 14 sc. Ch 1 and turn. (14)

Row 4) hdc dec, ch 2, skip the next 2 sts, 5 hdc, ch 2, skip the next 2 sts, 2 hdc, 2 hdc

dec. Fasten off. (14)

Using dark green yarn, sc around the entire outside edge of the jacket.

Use the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle to sew the jacket onto the doll’s body

so that it cannot be removed. Weave in ends.
