Inside this issue:
Well Groundhog Day is almost here and I can’t wait to watch the movie again. I know you have seen it. It stars Bill Murray and he
is a cynical weatherman who goes to Punxsutawney to be part of the festivities and relives the day over and over. Same events are relived with the same
people day after day.
It seems to be the same for us also. Last year at this time I wrote to you about the events that were being realized and played out in the United Methodist Church just prior to the specially called General Conference in St. Louis last February. There was a general thought that the vote would go against the traditional stance of the church, but, to the surprise and delight of the conservative base, the vote was to hold the line on ordination and marriage of homosexual clergy and partners. The atmosphere of the General Conference was one of defiance and anger. The progressive side would not adhere to the vote of the conference and vowed to stand in rebellion. As a result of that conference, we have realized more division and more anger. This has been an undercurrent of the church since its founding in 1968. The basis of our misunderstanding between the sides is truly centered on the authority and
inerrancy of the Word of God.
“You will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one
another and hate one another” (Matthew 24:9-10).

COMMANDMENT #11
During the 17th century, an archbishop traveling through Scotland met theologian Samuel Rutherford but kept his identity secret. Rutherford invited the man to stay with him. When Mrs. Rutherford gathered the servants on Saturday to prepare for worship the next day, the guest joined in and was asked a basic question: “How many commandments are there?” When the guest replied “11,” Mrs. Rutherford said, “What a shame it is for you, a man with gray hairs, in a Christian country, not to know how many commandments there are!” The next morning Rev. Rutherford went out in the woods to pray and heard his guest doing likewise. When he discovered the archbishop’s identity, Rutherford invited him to preach that morning. The archbishop’s topic? The 11th commandment, based on Jesus’ words in John 13:34 — “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another” (ESV).

However, at the beginning of January of this year a proposal, a protocol, was introduced by a 16 member task force from within the denomination offering a gracious means of division for the United Methodist Church. This legislation will give opportunity to each side of the church to move away from each other and move in the direction that they are being led. I know that I have said this before but I am not willing to stand with those who would consider the Word of God to be of lesser value than the cultural norm. To take the side of the day against the authority of God and His Word is
to take the side of evil.
There are many things to be finalized and many votes to be taken in the next several months as this legislation will go before the General Conference in May to move the division of the United Methodist Church into at least two new denominations. There are many things that will need to be considered by us too. Truly the only issue is whether or not we believe the Word of God to be the Word of God. The only issue is the Word of God. “We have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:19-21). You know that the Holy Spirit cannot lie and the Word of God cannot be changed. In Timothy Paul wrote that the time would come when they would not endure
sound doctrine. My friends the time has come.
“For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the
gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17).
“If we endure, we will also reign with Him; if we deny Him, He also will deny
us” (2 Timothy 2:12).
Hold on!
See you in church,
Pastor Denton
“prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope
completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of
Jesus Christ”

SIX LITTLE STORIES
WITH LOTS OF MEANINGS
(1). Once all the villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. That is faith.
(2). When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them. That is trust.
(3). Every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive in the morning, but we still set the alarms to wake up. That is hope.
(4). We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future. That is confidence.
(5). We see the world suffering, but still, we get married and have children. That is love.
(6). On an old man’s shirt was written a sentence ‘I am not 80 years old; ‘I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience.’ That is attitude.
Have a happy day and live you life like these six stories. Remember - Good friends are the rare jewels of life, difficult to find and impossible to replace!

AN EARLY START TO SPRING CLEANING
Although Lent starts early this year, before spring appears in many areas, it’s an appropriate time for spring cleaning. Indeed, Lent comes from old German and English words for “spring.” So, while it might be too soon to open windows or hang clothes on the line, now is the ideal time for some spiritual spring cleaning. Lent calls us to examine our beliefs, confess and dispose of old grudges and selfish habits, dust off our Bibles for a new routine of study and prayer, air out our hearts and brighten up our attitudes. “Lent cleaning” lets the Holy Spirit freshen our faith — and it’s never too early for that.

Answer: D (See Joshua 2:3, 6.) Wesley Chapel currently does not have a Youth Group. Our prayer concern is for someone to be listening for the Lord’s call
and step forward. Would you please join in prayer for someone to lead our youth. If you or someone you know is interested,
please let Pastor Denton know.

Dear Friends,
I want to express my deep gratitude for your generous gift to Samaritan’s Purse. We truly appreciate your partnership and prayers that make this
ministry possible.
“Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying al-
ways for you” (Colossians 1:2-3).
May God richly bless you during this Christmas season.
Sincerely,
Franklin Graham
LOVES ME NOT?
A girl asked a boy if he loved her, and he replied, “Yes, of course.” “Would you die for me?” the girl wondered. After a brief pause, the honest lad said, “No, mine is an undying love.”

LOOKING AHEAD
SAVE THE DATE. Our annual spring clean-up will be April 4th. You can be part of the awesome team to add some shine and sparkle to our Wesley Chapel church building and grounds.
This will be just in time to celebrate the Resurrection! Any amount of time you can give will be appreciated. Watch future bulletins and newsletters for more
information.
The 15th annual Wild Game Dinner will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020. The speaker this year will be Mr. Ken Stairs. As before, we will be issuing tickets at no cost (just so we have a head count!). Donations will be accepted to defray the cost of the speaker, etc. There will be door prizes again
this year, and everyone is asked to bring his/her favorite wild game dish. Tickets will be available in the near future. Announcement will be made in church as to who has tick-ets to give out. Plan on coming for a great meal and fun
evening out with the family!
LENTEN LIVING
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 26 this year. Christians have observed this season of the church year since the fourth century. It’s traditionally a time of reflection, penitence and spiritual renewal before Easter. During Lent, some Christians give up something that hinders their relationship with God. Others do something extra for their spiritual growth or make a special sacrifice. The key is to make Lent a memorable season of sincere spiritual growth — a time that can set the tone for the rest of the year.

PROVIDING PROOF
If we are to accept the teaching of Jesus at all, then the only test of the reality of a man’s religion is his attitude to his fellow men. The only possible proof that a man loves God is the demonstrated fact that he loves his fellow men.
