Jillian Prescott Music AwardsSponsored by the Southwest Florida Symphony Society and theJillian Prescott Memorial Music Fund
QUALIFICATIONS: The competition is open to students who are between the ages of 12 and 22 as of April 11, 2020. The applicant must be a legal resident or full-time student residing in the counties of Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, or Hendry Florida, with a student I.D., and U.S. resident (or with passport and work/student visa of F-1 status) and SSN (W-9 eligible). Foreign students may apply but may not win a cash prize if these qualifications are not met.
AWARDS: Winner in all categories will receive prize money. The competition is two-tiered.Youth: ages 12-17 and Young Adult: ages 18-22. The award for the winner in each discipline will be $600. An Overall Winner, chosen from among the winners in each discipline, will be awarded $1,800 and will be invited to perform with the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra in the 2020-2021 Season, with music to be mutually agreed upon by the conductor and the winner.
REGISTRATION: There is a non-refundable registration fee of $15 for each applicant.
Marilyn Van Sickle Vocal CompetitionSponsored by the Southwest Florida Symphony Society and theJoseph L. and Marilyn R. Van Sickle Vocal Music Scholarship Fund
QUALIFICATIONS: The competition is open to high school seniors, full-time college students and graduate student majoring in music whose principal instrument is the voice. The entrant or family must be a resident of Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, or Hendry County. Verification of enrollment and major must be submitted before the scholarship is awarded.
AWARD: Winner is awarded a scholarship covering a period of time not to exceed four years, during which time the student must pursue a music course of study with voice as the principal instrument or major. Payment of $3,000 will be made every year for four consecutive years as long as the student maintains satisfactory progress during which he or she is in college or a similar program and continues to pursue a music course of study.
REGISTRATION: There is a non-refundable registration fee of $15 for each applicant.

Marilyn Van Sickle Vocal Music Scholarship Endowment
The objective of these competitions is to encourage the development of musical talent in young artists and to increase their performance opportunities. Cash awards will be presented to the winners for further study in their chosen field. In addition, all contestants will receive evaluations of work from the judges to aid in their development.
COMPETITION RULES:• APPLICATION DEADLINES: Van Sickle: February 7, 2020; Jillian Prescott: March 31, 2020 (will be strictly enforced). The application form must be
completed and sent with two letters of recommendation to: Southwest Florida Symphony Society, Music Awards, 8920 College Parkway, Suite 103, Fort Myers FL 33919.
• DRESS CODE: Age-appropriate professional concert attire is expected.• MUSIC: Memorization is required. Entrants should make their own arrangements for an accompanist. If there is
difficulty finding an accompanist, call the Symphony office at 418-0996 for assistance. • Judges: The decisions of the judges are final.
FOR JILLIAN PRESCOTT:• ELIGIBILITY: Student musicians between the ages of 12 and 22 as of

• REPERTOIRE: • INSTRUMENTALISTS: Competitors must perform music from classical
repertoire for which orchestral accompaniment is published and readily available. Instrumentalist and keyboard must play one movement from a concerto for soloist and orchestra, or a complete major work for soloist and orchestra from the classical repertoire. Maximum performance time is ten (10) minutes total.
• VOCALISTS: Competitors should make selections from the repertoire of oratorio, opera and music theater for which orchestral accompaniment is available. Maximum performance time is ten (10) minutes total. Make necessary cuts or be prepared to be asked to stop. Please select age appropriate lyrics.
