Young Life in East Cobb

MY GOAL IN MINISTRYThrough much prayer and consideration, I have been called to do ministry at Lassiter High School and expand and establish WyldLife, a middle school ministry, for the area.

• Through prayer and developing community connections, build a stable foundation for WyldLife middle school ministry.

• Create multiple WyldLife leadership teams through prayer, relationship and training.

• By the end of three years, WyldLife teams at multiple schools will be having their own individual clubs.

REACHING A WORLD OF KIDSYoung Life is following a movement of the Holy Spirit to make an impact on a world of kids. By the end of 2016, Young Life will have doubled its reach, equipping 80,000 leaders in 8,000 ministry areas to meet two million kids every year — all for the purpose of introducing them to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. Young Life was made for them.

CONTACT WORK Because kids don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care, Young Life leaders show they care by going where kids are, meeting them as they are, and believing in who they can be. Within Young Life we call the persistent going out into the world of kids “contact work.” But kids just call it friendship.

CLUB We like to think of club as a “party with a purpose.” It’s controlled chaos that’s almost impossible to describe, but kids know it when they see it. And before the party ends, we share a simple message about God’s love for them. After all, that’s what the celebration is all about.

CAMP Kids consistently tell us that Young Life camp is the best week of their lives. How else would you describe a week where deep relationships are forged in the midst of mind-boggling fun and you hear the greatest love story ever told?

CAMPAIGNERS Campaigners is a weekly gathering for kids who wish to learn more or grow in their faith through study, service and leadership. We’re with kids for the long haul to help them take the first steps of faith with unconditional love. Along the way, we encourage kids to celebrate their faith through participation in a local church congregation.

WHAT IS YOUNG LIFE?

East Cobb is a community north of Atlanta with approximately 169,000 residents.

It is a city filled with family life — developed neighborhoods, residential parks and a large number of elementary, middle and high schools. In Marietta, we hope to be a ministry that is for every student everywhere; therefore, Young Life is available for high school and middle school students as well as students with disabilities. The volunteer leaders range from college students at local universities to long-time East Cobb residents with full-time jobs. Young Life is healthy, present and growing in the region. This year, we are beginning ministry at Sprayberry High School, growing a stronger, more foundational presence at multiple middle schools and raising up a greater number of volunteer leaders from Kennesaw State University.

My relationship with the Lord began right at the end of my senior year of high school when life as I knew it seemingly fell apart. Through a sweet friend’s invite to church, I met God and felt instantly seen and known. I knew then that I wanted to do the same for others — walk with them and make them feel valuable and cared for. Young Life seemed to be the perfect fit for this kind of ministry. After volunteering as a leader for two years in Athens, Georgia, I began to process the idea of going on Young Life staff. I loved knowing Jesus more through ministry, doing life with my high school friends and becoming a part of the community at Prince Avenue Christian School. Imagining going on Young Life staff felt like a dream, yet I initially rejected the idea. Full-time ministry and fundraising intimidated me. I battled thoughts of unworthiness — could He really be calling me to an adventure as sweet as this? The Lord chased after me, though, affirming my passion, validating my worth and quieting my fears, reminding me that He does not call the equipped, instead He equips the called. Getting to know high school girls’ stories and walking through all parts of life with them is a dream job. I feel humbled and honored that the Lord would ask me. I cannot wait to partner with Him in all He has in store for me and East Cobb/Marietta, Georgia.

MY CALLING

“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with

you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.”
