What we’re made of

Above are the four generations of the Kirk Kristiansen family who’ve owned the LEGO Group from the start. And below are Kjeld and Thomas - the third- and fourth-generation owners.

Since Ole Kirk Kristiansen founded his carpentry business in 1932, the Kirk Kristiansen family have played a leading role in the business. This continues today, with our 4th generation owners. This means that the values, beliefs and traditions that Ole created still guide us today. To set these values in stone, the family created the LEGO® Idea Paper. It describes their fundamental belief that children are our role models. It also sets out our mission, vision, values and promises. As such, it’s the guiding star for everything we do.

Put it all together, and you get our brand framework.

caring, acting with courage, standing by decisions and learning from mistakes.

staying true to our purpose, prioritising action, and delivering on commitments.

Leadership here isn’t a position - it’s an act. It’s a way of doing things that brings the best out of people. To make sure we create and live our own kind of leadership, we came up with something we call the Leadership Playground. It’s an inclusive model for everyone to be seen, heard, valued and respected. It’s built around the three behaviours opposite. And it’s here to create a shared style of leadership that can:

Energise Everybody Everyday

We’re building inclusion capability We’ve created a leadership model that ensures we energise everybody every day. You can read more about it on page 10.

We’re helping all our people play their partThrough task forces, events and communications, we’re building awareness and ownership at all levels, for everyone.

And we’re inspiring all children to learn through play We do this by making sure all our creative content reflects society, and the whole range of children who play with LEGO bricks around the world.

We’re improving our HR People tools and processes We continue to invest in new learning and career development solutions, so that everyone here can realise their full potential.

We’re measuring the progress we’re makingWe’ve set ourselves ambitious targets for colleague belonging, inclusion and satisfaction, which we track through our engagement surveys.

We’re balancing global and local priorities Our Diversity & Inclusion Council, which represents colleagues from around the world, helps drive forward inclusion projects across the organisation.

How we’re building diversity and inclusionInclusion at the LEGO Group is a journey, and we’re all on it together. Focusing on two global priorities, valuing differences and improving representation, we’re evolving our behaviours and processes every day. And, whether it’s by joining a campfire, contributing to an initiative or leading by example, you’ll become part of the progress we’re making.
