Aspiration to become a global chemical materials company.Since its foundation in 1972, Woongjin Chemical has stood at the forefront of major strides in domestic synthetic

fiber industry facilitating constant industrial progression through differentiating high value-added product lines.

With its main focus on specializing high value-added fiber products, Woongjin Chemical actively embarked on the

Since its establishment in 1972 as Cheil Synthetics Inc., Woongjin Chemical has led the development of the

domestic synthetic fiber industry. It has focused on developing value added fiber materials with the com-

prehensive production system which linked its polyester business and textile business while advancing to

overseas markets and diversifying its businesses, helping Woongjin Chemical grow further.

Woongjin Chemical expanded its business horizon to environmental materials including the filter base on

reverse osmosis membranes and also to package and industrial sheets building on polyester fiber technol-

ogy. Recently, the high value-added electronic materials business was the focus with LCD diffuser plate

and prism sheet based on polyester sheet technology. Woongjin Chemical is pushing the envelope further

by branching out to technology-intensive, high value-added industrial materials, including aramid fibers,

a next-generation cutting-edge material. Building on all these achievements, Woongjin Chemical is now a

Woongjin Chemical’s gumi plant with state of-the-art equipment has an annual production capacity of 190,000 tons of polyester staple fibers, 7,000 tons of polyolefin staple fiber, and 60,000 tons of solid phase polymerization chips.

A polyester stretch staple fiber characterized by rebound resilience

and drape properties, it is used in uniforms, shirts, pants and knitwear.

It is the only staple fiber for stretch fabric among staple fibers for ap-

parel.

This fiber is chemical recycle fiber used PET bottles and polymerizes

them. It is an environmentally-friendly recycled fiber excellent in sav-

ing petroleum resource and energy and cuts CO² and other gas emis-

sions.

This stuffing fiber is light and soft like natural duck down. It is easy to

handle and stays warm, making it ideal for textiles such as jumpers and

beddings.

Aramid fibers are a representative high-tech fiber, with outstand-

ing physical and chemical qualities. They have high heat-retardant

and tensile strength properties and superior chemical resistance. It

is used in fire retardant suits, high temperature dust-collecting filter

bags, insulating materials, electric wire covering, and industrial-use

gloves.

Our representative flame-retardant fiber material uses phosphorous

flame-retardants which are harmless to the human body. We are quipped

with a integrated production system for flame-retardant agents, flame-

retardant chip, and flame-retardant staple fiber to stably produce a wide

variety of high-quality products.

Through the bi-component of polymers having a relatively low melting

point, this eco-friendly binder fiber can be cohesive to other fibers only

with heat treatment without using adhesives such as acryl or epoxy.

This filament is the side-by-side bi-component yarn, which consists of

two polymers (PET/PTT) with different shrinkage. PTT polymer is ex-

tracted from corn. It is eco-friendly, and creates a comfortable stretch.

A functional material containing highly concentrated ceramics at the

core of the filament, it protects the skin from UV rays and cuts off vis-

ible light, as well as being superior in preventing a see-through effect.

As one of the longest running products of Woongjin Chemical, this

brand is entirely composed of spun fibers mostly including high quality

natural materials and spun yarn. It is used to make clothes for multi

purposes such as high quality casuals, high stretched suits, school

uniforms with special functions and other uniforms.

INNOSKIN

By fusing differentiated dyeing technology to 0.2 denier microfiber,

it has a silky feel and a subtle sheen. It is widely used for outer wear

including coats and jackets.

This product uses LMP (Low Melting Polyester) to replace the coating

process with only heat treatment. This new technology is very eco-

nomical as well as harmless to the human body and the environment.

The vividness of the color and texture is excellent and, in particular, it

is highly flame retardant, colorfast and light controlling, which comple-

ments any interior design.

PurIMAX

This is made of high-performance superfine filament which is soft with

a superior absorbing ability. This cleaning product is particularly well

recognized in the world for its fast drying and anti-bacterial properties,

as well as, durability and convenient usability. It is also widely used for

In 1994, after five years of research and development, Woongjin Chemical succeeded in the commercial production of the RO (Reverse Osmosis) membrane which is used in a variety of areas from seawater desalination, ultrapure water production and waste water reuse. In 1998, we built microfilter manufacturing lines to become a renowned integrated filter maker with the capabilities of manufacturing a range of products from RO to nF (nano- filtration), UF (Ultrafiltration) and MF (Microfiltration). The CsM membrane developed by our Company is now earning worldwide recognition. Especially FRM (Fouling Resistant Membrane) is recognized as having the world’s best quality in the waste water recycling field. The RO membrane filter which Woongjin Chemical commercialized for the first time in korea occupies the biggest market share in the domestic market and ranks third in the world market in terms of production capability.

Woongjin Chemical produces various types of filters such as RO, nF and UF which are mainly used for

seawater desalination, waste water recycling and deionized water manufacturing, as well as MF used for water

treatment and processing. Among our RO filters, the FRM (Fouling Resistance Membrane) is well received

in the world, while BW (Brackish Water), UpW (Ultra pure Water) and sW (seawater Desalination) products

are also manufactured. Focus is given to development and production of seawater with high flow volume

membranes, high boron rejection sW membranes, 16-inch products, products with low-voltage and high salt

rejection rates to save costs for operation and installation. As for the MF filter, high-capacity and high-volume

products are produced to meet the market needs. Anti-bacterial and anti-microorganism membrane filters for

food and beverage production, as well as for the medical field, are also manufactured.

improving the process yield ratio

or breakdown while in use at the

CSM MF

Woongjin Chemical produces a wide range of micro filters from car-

tridges to mini and capsule types. With various filter materials includ-

ing polypropylene and Teflon, we can provide products that best suit

our customers’ needs. While we were developing our rO membranes,

we achieved the know-how to produce micro filters that remove par-

ticles at micro-levels of 0.1-100㎛. Our micro filters are used by the

electronics, semiconductor, fine chemicals, automobile, and petro-

chemical companies that manufacture products with high purity.

CsM’s rO membranes include the frM (fouling resistant Mem-

brane) and sWM (seawater Desalination Membrane). They are poly-

amide thin film composite membranes which are widely used both

domestically and abroad due to their high rejection rates and high

flow rates. They are used for home purifiers, industrial pure water,

ultrapure water for manufacturing of semiconductors, and seawater

desalination. These membranes are especially used to purify sewage

and industrial waste water.

Woongjin Chemical’s EXCEll pET sheet is produced specialized pET developed by the Company’s cutting-

edge technology as we accumulated the best and most specialized technologies in the pET material field. It has

high mechanical, thermal and chemical properties. Equipped with such top level sheet extrusion technology,

we produce thin films of a non-oriented type utilizing various materials. The best examples of our products are

EXCEll pET plates with high transparency and thermoform-ability; glACEl, a pC (polycarbonate) plate

with high impact resistance and heat resistance. We also produce lUMICEl, diffuser plate for lCD TV and

lUMIsM, prism sheet made with the first-ever extrusion engraving technology in korea. These electronic

This prism sheet for LCD BLU applies extrusion engraving technology

for the first time in Korea, manufacturing sheets and configuring prisms

at the same time, significantly simplifying the previous manufacturing

process. Its thickness is in the range of 200~600㎛. Also this eco-friend-

ly product uses materials with high heat resistance and low absorbing

ability, acquiring dimensional stability.

LUMICEL is a material for LCD BLU and LED lighting. This diffuser

plate is a new concept that can respond to the ever-increasing, up-

scale electronic display business. not only does this plate use eco-

friendly materials, but it has high optical properties, impact resistance

and stability, as well as high heat resistance.

ShEETS

Woongjin Chemical’s top level quality sheets, for example cut sheets,

EsD sheets and decorative sheets, are produced using the Com-

pany’s cutting-edge processes applying the best and specialized

technologies in the PET material field. Our sheet products have ex-

cellent mechanical, thermal and chemical properties and are widely

used for food and consumer goods containers, medical and industrial

purposes, and electrical and electronic trays.

functions include anti-static, anti-slipping

and anti-blocking so as to be suitable for

offset print and process. The covers are

processed using a special treatment which

leads to a strengthening of the printability

and adhesiveness.

This sheet product is finely and evenly coated

with PEDOT or Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythio-

phene) on a plastic sheet surface in order to

maintain good conductivity. Unique features

include less particles and low outgas.

This product is the base sheet for decorative

sheets which are used for many purposes

including overlay, thermoforming, wrapping,

edge and high glossy. It has many strengths:

no gel, dimple and fish eye on the surface,

perfect color appearance, and a wide range

of treatability on the surface.

DIFFuSEr ShEET

With LCD TVs becoming slimmer and saving energy becoming popu-

lar, this sheet satisfies high shade and brightness requirements. At the

same time as production of the sheet, the producer is able to process

the shape of a lens on the sheet surface. Also, the sheet thickness is

freely adjusted in the range of 200~600㎛. It is thus an eco-friendly ma-

terial that meets the diverse needs of the customer.

rEFLECTIvE POLArIZINg ShEET

The world’s first reflective polarizing sheet using microfibers for LCD

BLU, it is a fusion of Woongjin Chemical’s fiber and its materials busi-

nesses. It is innovative as it binds special textiles with the sheet using

a new technology. With superior brightness, it is an eco-friendly prod-

uct with highly even differences in colors and is very bright.

For 30 years since the R&D Institute was established in 1979, Woongjin Chemical has contributed to devel-

oping the chemical material technology to enrich people’s lives from the clothes we wear to the water we

drink and next generation display materials.

Based on polyester resin and textile manufacturing technology developed since its foundation, following

the RO (Reverse Osmosis) membrane commercialized for the first time in Korea, Woongjin Chemical has

aggressively developed such diverse technologies needed for fouling resistant RO membranes, RO mem-

branes for seawater desalination, MF (Microfiltration) membranes and waste water treatment filters. By de-

veloping the manufacturing technology for LCD optical diffuser plate with high luminance and high heat re-

sistance and continuous extrusion engraving prism sheet, we have made remarkable achievements in the

information technology materials sector. We have restructured the technology development management

system and introduced a technological assets management system, which led to a successful process im-

provement campaign and improved technological competitiveness. With innovative initiatives, we concen-

trate on maximizing the productiveness of our research capabilities.

A master plan for technological development was established to improve competitiveness in strategic ar-

eas such as environment, energy and advanced materials. We are building on this master plan to develop

alternative energy part materials to lay the foundation for new business opportunities and furthermore, to

pursue R&D activities in the fine chemical and biotechnology sectors in the mid-and long-term.

The r&d institute

The R&D Institute in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do has strengthened its capability to

develop cutting-edge chemical material since its consolidation with the

previous Material Research Institute in 2008. The Institute focuses on explor-

ing new businesses in the environment and energy sectors and developing

future oriented new technologies. Supplied with new and diverse experiment

equipments and cutting-edge sophisticated pilot equipments, and by secur-

ing competent human resources, the Institute has become a core power en-

gine for Woongjin Chemical. It is especially focusing its ceaseless efforts to

developing polymerization and processing technologies for new polymer,

textiles, membrane materials, sophisticated display materials, and manufac-

turing and processing technologies for the next generation energy part mate-

rials so as to commercialize the technologies in an early manner.

The Production Technology Research Centers located at Gumi PlantⅠandⅡ

and the Anseong Plant are committed to securing the technology foundation

to expand the existing business areas including fiber, textile, filter and display

materials and to realizing customer value through the development of new

for sustainable growth and survival. Woongjin Chemical has strategically strengthened

its ethical management to be a global chemical material company growing together

- Establishing infrastructure to practice ethical management

Woongjin Chemical has a business-wide ethical management system with the Ethics

Committee under the Ethical Management Bureau and responsible units by each busi-

ness divisions are operated. Ethics regulations, codes of conduct and practical guide-

lines are also drawn up and distributed to help all employees practice ethics. In April

2008, we announced our strong commitment to ethical management by holding the Eth-

ical Management Declaration Ceremony. A transparent and fair ethical management is

what Woongjin Chemical is pursuing.

To solidify ethical management as our corporate culture, we operate a hotline and an

ethics bureau through which employees can make reports on illegal business opera-

Under the philosophy ‘What’s good for nature is good for people’ Woongjin Chemical has pur-

sued an environmental management system. Its basic direction for environmental manage-

ment is going beyond just becoming an eco-friendly company. It is to emerge as a sustainable

company trusted by customers by creating green products based on natural resources and

recycled materials, and by initiating numerous environmental preservation campaigns such

as pollution prevention and energy and resource conservation programs. We are committed

to creating a sustainable future where nature and people can grow together harmoniously.

- Environmental management system at the global level

ISO-14001 certification was introduced to all businesses by minimizing environmental pollution

that can arise during business activities while establishing an environmental management sys-

tem. Through the operation of the Environmental Management Committee, Woongjin Chemical

is responding proactively to customers’ demands, thereby enhancing the level of environmen-

tal management. For energy saving, through steady efforts to conserve energy by signing a vol-

untary agreement (VA) with the government, we were designated superior VA worksites for five

consecutive years. Together with this and the Group’s low-carbon management policy, we have

completed building a greenhouse gas inventory to respond to climate change from October

2008. This made us the first in the industry to establish a carbon management system.

- aggressive and consistent environmental management

To achieve the objectives of environmental management, we have established green purchase

policies and guidelines. As part of the effort, a ‘No Left-over Food’ campaign was launched at

cafeterias of all businesses, while management and employees clean-up waste and garbage left

in nearby mountains and rivers to help environment purification on a regular basis.
