Editor’s Note Well, 2020 has certainly got off to a dramatic

start with the shock announcement from Harry and Meghan! This news has brought back royal memories of my own. The first is from 1968 when the Queen visited Worksop. I had the chance to join the crowds and wave a flag in the hope of catching a glimpse. I remember thinking, “she’s just a person” so had a day off school instead!

My second memory comes from 1997. We were on a camping holiday in France and news of Princess Diana’s death trickled into the campsite on that fateful Sunday morning. We couldn’t believe it! I sat in the car, quietly listening to the radio news reports. Her funeral was the following Saturday as we travelled home on the ferry. I crowded into the TV room with hundreds of others, and watched the events unfold with tears streaming down my face.

We did a detour on the drive up from Dover and called in at Althorpe, Diana’s family home, to pay our respects and look at the floral tributes. It was sad but very special.

My feelings about royalty haven’t changed. They are just people but that gives them the right to make choices just like the rest of us. I’m sad about Harry and Meghan’s decision, but I fully respect and understand it, and I wish them all the luck and happiness in the world! Until next time, stay safe and be happy!
