YOUR SCHOOLS Graduation Edition NEWSLETTER OF THE ROCKVILLE CENTRE PUBLIC SCHOOLS Volume 36 • Number 5 July 2015
Congratulations to the
Class of 2015!
We wish you much success on the
road ahead.
Elementary School Fifth graders throughout the District participated in moving-up ceremonies on June 24th
and 25th. During these ceremonies students bid farewell to the elementary schools that had
been their homes for the past 6 years and readied themselves for their transition to South Side
Middle School.
In many of the ceremonies, memories were shared and songs were sung that expressed
students’ emotions and excitement. We wish all incoming 6th graders good luck and great
success as they start their first year at South Side Middle School this Fall.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
At the South Side Middle School Final Assembly on June 26th, 274 students were
joined by friends, family and faculty as they celebrated their last milestone as Middle School
students and prepared to enter South Side High School. The ceremony was opened by 8th
grader, Joseph Quirk, who greeted all the guests, followed by a speech from South Side Middle
School Principal Shelagh McGinn.
The final student speech was a farewell address given by classmate Lauren Thomas.
Students were then called onto the stage to accept their certificates, concluding the ceremony.
HIGH SCHOOL
On June 26th South Side High School Seniors bid the Rockville Centre School District a fond
farewell during their graduation at Hofstra University. Clad in blue caps and gowns, eager students
entered the arena to “Pomp and Circumstance” performed by the SSHS Wind Ensemble, conducted by
Mr. Barry LeBron.
Students heard speeches from Salutatorian Mark Behar, Valedictorian Alexander Boss, Board of
Education Trustee John O’Shea, Senator Chuck Schumer and 2015 Class President Sarah Mullooly.
Incoming South Side Principal, John Murphy, presented Dr. Carol Burris with an honorary South Side
Diploma for her excellent years of service to the District. Once speeches were concluded, Dr. Burris
presented the class of 2015. Following receipt of their diplomas, students viewed a video showcasing
events throughout their senior year, which was presented as a gift from the Alumni Association. Class
President Sarah Mullooly gave a speech congratulating the Class of 2015, and instructed them to move
their tassels from the right to the left symbolizing their transition to graduates.
