Your guide to becoming a OverviewThis programme is an intensive 22 day practical training and assessment programme for thosewishing to start working in the electrical trade and start down the route of becoming registeredwith a competent person scheme (CPS) as a Domestic Electrical Installer. Registering with a CPSallows the installer to self-certify their work and for the CPS to issue a building controlcompliance certificate directly to the customer (only required for notifiable tasks).

The course has been developed for those with little or no electrical knowledge but who areadept at practical and manual tasks and have basic numeracy skills. Training will provide therequired knowledge and practical skills to be able to install electrical installations withindomestic dwellings and, most importantly, to be able to install, inspect, test and certificate workto the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2018.

What qualifications will I gain?Upon successful completion of the course you will gain the following qualifications andcertificates. The Health & Safety Courses included within the package are undertaken onlineby the candidate. l Logic Certification Domestic Electrical Installer – Part P (Full Scope) l 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, BS 7671 (City & Guilds 2382-18 – RQF Level 3) l Initial Verification, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (Logic Certification RQF Level 3) l Health & Safety – Manual Handling l Health & Safety – Fire Safety l Health & Safety – Asbestos Awareness l Health & Safety – Working at Heights.

What will I learn? l Electrical wiring regulations, standards and associated documents l Competent Persons Schemes (CPS), why they are needed and how to register l Safe working and isolation l Basic electrical theory, including OHMS Law, power laws and resistance l Building Regulations – Part P and Part M l Understanding wiring and circuit diagrams l Electrical components including consumer units and safety devices l Installation techniques and correct use of tools l Cable calculations, types, connecting and terminating l Use of electrical test meters and subsequent calculations l Testing, fault finding, earthing and bonding l Electricity containment, trunking and conduits l Electrical applications – lighting circuits, showers, spurs and cookers l Initial verification, testing and certification of electrical installations, including three-phase testing l Health and Safety – asbestos awareness, manual handling, fire safety and working at heights

Learning will take place in our electrical training rooms, equipped with a range of practicaltesting boards and scenarios, and in our dedicated electrical installation training bays andworkshop. Practical training will cover all the skills required to carry out a full domestic electricalinstallation, including power, lighting, showers, ELV lighting, cookers and outside circuits. Onceyou have completed the full installation within the bay you will then test and issue the relevantelectrical test certificate for that installation.

What will I be able to do after this course?This course will give you the skills, knowledge and qualifications to meet therequirements of the electrical competent person Schemes such as NAPIT, ELECSA.STROMA, NIC etc. as a Domestic Electrical Installer, which you would need to join ifyou wish to self-certify your own work. As part of the registration process with a CPSyou will be required to have an on-site inspection where a job you have carriedout and certificated will be inspected. You will also be required to demonstrateprevious experience working on domestic electrical systems over a period of time.

DurationThe course is completed over 22 days. The first 10 day module is undertaken at the Northolt centre. The next3 modules for each qualification can be taken at Northolt or Basildon on any of the regular scheduled courses,allowing you to spread the course over a timeframe to suit your situation. There is no restriction on when youhave to complete them all by. The training takes place between 8.30am and 4.00pm each day.
