Westminster offers active opportunities for everyone. There are a full range of great value activities and services to help you live a healthy and active lifestyle from gyms and swimming pools to Parkour, an innovative free running programme. Our sports & leisure facilities and services offer excellent value for money, particularly for residents. Children, young people and Concession Card holders can benefit from even greater discounts and a range of free activities.
All our centres are open to the public on a casual ‘pay as you play’ basis. This means there is no joining fee or contract so you can just turn up and take part.
Westminster Sports Unit
Westminster Sports Unit works to ensure everyone has the best opportunities to participate in sport and leisure activities to the level they want. The Sports Unit is based at Moberly Sports and Education Centre and develops and delivers sports and school sports programmes across the City.
Westminster’s residents especially children, young people and older people benefit from a range of targeted and innovative programmes delivered in partnership to ensure inclusive provision for the whole community.

Concession Card
If you are disabled, caring for a disabled person, a Westminster senior citizen or a Westminster resident who is unemployed and currently seeking employment you are entitled to a Concession Card. The card will allow you to enjoy free swimming and up to 70% off other leisure activities within Westminster. To apply, please visit your local sports and leisure centre and pick up an application form.
Youth Passport
The Youth Passport provides residents under 19 years with great discounts, offers and give-aways in and around Westminster. Benefits include free swimming, great savings on activities and much more. Memberships
All Westminster City Council facilities are open on a ‘pay as you play’ basis but if you exercise more than once a week you could save money by joining one of the memberships schemes.

Owned and managed by Westminster City Council, Sayers Croft is a beautiful, safe and secure site with 56 acres of woodlands, meadows, ponds and fields and has been providing quality outdoor experiences for young people for over 70 years. We can provide accommodation for 200 people in six comfortable, self contained wooden chalets, each with broadband internet access, intruder alarm, common room and en suite staff rooms.

Westminster features over 100 Parks and Open Spaces which provide great active opportunities for walking, jogging and children’s play.
PaddingtonRecreationGround,at27acres,isthe largest open space owned and managed by Westminster City Council, drawing well over one million visitors a year.
Informal areas provide important spaces for recreation including dog walking, jogging and children’s play. The varied range of facilities provides a sporting hub for the local community including a variety of clubs and schools.

The ActiveWestminster Mark is a new quality accreditation for any sports club or provider that has a junior section. The ActiveWestminster Mark has been introduced to:

clubs offer• Provide support and benefits to clubs
including discounted and priority access to facilities and financial support to help the club improve.
SUPPORT FOR TALENTED ATHLETES
Champions for the Future programme
Champions for the Future is our new athlete support programme, developed and delivered by the Council in partnership with Sports Aid, West London Sports Trust and Nuffield Health.
The programme is open to all Westminster residents at national level or an emerging regional talent.
The aims of the programme are to:• Identify, support and develop gifted
young people• Engage and support clubs & coaches • Increase access to sport & leisure facilities.
Champions for the Future athletes will benefit from a comprehensive offer and free resources including:• Free Access to all Westminster facilities• Mentoring support and training including
progress reports, performance profiles, athlete and performance workshops
• Up to £1,000 funding support for travel, equipment and accommodation expenses.
Gifted and Talented programme
The programme seeks to improve the education of gifted and talented children and young people aged 5-19 through sport.

All children and young people living in Westminster can swim free of charge in any of our four public pools. We also offer an extensive programme of swimming lessons throughout the year including free swimming lessons during school holidays. Sports Activities & Courses
Our sports and leisure centres offer a range of activities and courses to keep children and young people of all ages and abilities entertained throughout the year. These range from Splash sessions in the pool to fun in the jungle gyms and on our bouncy castles.
Our sports camps vary from 1-2 days to a full 5 day programme and include tennis, football, cricket and hockey sessions with qualified coaches. For more information on prices and times contact your local centre.

Westminster Sports Unit has a dedicated team who work with all the schools & colleges in the City to improve the quantity and quality of sport for all children and young people.
National School Sports WeekThe events will begin with a Dance festival on the26thJunefollowedbyaweekofactivityfromthe29thJune.Thiswillincludeanumberof inter-school multi skills festivals, sports days, promotion of 2012 Olympics & Paralympics and special assemblies.

EDUTAIN
Easter and Summer holidaysEDUTAIN meaning to EDUcate and enterTAIN, is a sports & arts based programme for young people aged 8 –13 yrs. There’s a full range of activities on offer including Football, Basketball,Rounders,Swimming,TableTennis,Cricket, Street Dance, Arts & Crafts, Painting, Cooking, Drama, Creative Writing, Health & Fitness, Healthy Eating, Boxing, Parkour and much more.
Taking part is simple, all you have to do is go along to the project anytime between 10am and 3pm, complete a registration & consent form and join in the FUN!

HEALTH & WELLBEING PROGRAMMES
There are a number of dedicated programmes and activities to help residents take part and enjoy physical activity and become fit and healthy.
Exercise Referral Scheme The exercise referral scheme encourages Westminster residents of any age, who may be inactive as a result of a medical complaint or disability, to improve their health through a programme of exercise.
In most cases the programme can aid in the prevention, improvement and treatment of many illnesses and injuries, including Coronary Heart Disease, Obesity, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Osteo-Arthritis, Immobility, Anxiety, Stress & Depression, Osteoporosis, Asthma and Lower Cholesterol.
The scheme is delivered by the Council, in partnership with NHS Westminster, runs six days a week at various sites across Westminster. To access the scheme, you can be referred by any health professional including yourGP,nurseorphysiotherapist.

Westminster Sports Unit is committed to providing inclusive sports and leisure opportunities to enable disabled people to participate in sport and physical activity.

Sports and Leisure Volunteering Programme
Westminster Sports Unit has teamed up with Westminster Volunteer Centre to help and support people to volunteer in sport.
If you’re interested in becoming a coach, referee, administrator or treasurer of a sports club or instructor you can benefit from an excellent package of support funding for training courses andCriminalRecordsBureau(CRB)checks.
Westminster Sports Unit Young Apprenticeship Programme
A two year programme for year 10/11 (Key Stage 4) students from schools in Westminster. The programme is designed to create work related learning opportunities for young people and to give them the skills and opportunity to access Further education, training and employment in sport.
School Sports Courses
There are a range of training opportunities for education professionals, including a Continued Professional Development (CPD) and newly qualifiedteacher(NQT)programme.
CPD is provided by the Westminster School Sports Partnership for teachers across Westminster and includes teacher support, conferences, specific whole school INSET training and PE co-ordinator days. Other programmes available are:
