August 1st Was the Last August 1st, 1944, marks the day Anne Frank wrote her very last
entry in her diary. “I keep on trying to find a way of becoming
what I would like to be, and what I could
be, if...there weren't any other people living
in the world." Just three days later, Anne
and her family were arrested and sent to
Nazi concentration camps. Anne died at
Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on March 15, 1945, at age
15. Anne’s diary has sold over 30 million copies and has been
translated into 70 languages. Read this beloved memoir today,
at Your Home Public Library.
I’m Cooling Down Over Here…
A series of new air conditioners has been installed
in our library. The project began last year, but
was postponed over the winter. The final units
went in during the first week in July, thanks to our
custodian and other library staff members. Buzz works his magic! Adding the finishing touches.
Free Movie Night features Despicable Me
In honor of August as Family Fun Month, we will be showing the movie Despicable Me on Thursday, August 8th at 6:30 PM. As part of a scheme to steal a shrink ray and earn the title of "World's Greatest Villain," Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) enlists the help of three little orphan girls. His plot, of course, goes hilariously wrong. The film also features the voice talents of
Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher. Popcorn and juice will be available, or you may bring dinner. The program is FREE and open to all ages. The movie is rated PG for some rude humor and cartoon violence.

National Dog Day– 8/26 Founded by author and pet lifestyle expert
Colleen Paige in 2004, National Dog Day
is a time to honor the undying loyalty and
miraculous changes a dog can bring into
our lives. It is a day to “encourage dog
ownership of all breeds, and embrace the
opportunity for all dogs to live a happy,
safe and abuse-free life”. We recommend
the following titles from our collection to
help you celebrate National Dog Day:
Oogy: the dog only a family could love by Larry Levin
Sophie: the incredible true adventures of the castaway dog
by Emma Pearse You had me at woof: how dogs taught
me the secrets of happiness by Julie Klam
