As a Partner for Children, you invest in the lives of children, helping secure a foundation on which they can learn, grow and build successful futures. Because of you, children like Tamalika can dream big and reach their full potential. Tamalika grew up in a village in rural Nepal. Far too often in remote communities like hers, children — especially girls — lack access to essentials like basic education, health services and the support needed to escape poverty later in life. When Save the Children programming arrived in her community, 12-year-old Tamalika was eager to participate. Over the years, she benefitted from an education, school materials, teacher training, as well as programs to improve health and personal hygiene. Through the kindness and generosity of friends like you, along with her own hard work and dedication, Tamalika was able to lift herself out of the confines of poverty and now teaches in the same school where she was a primary student! “I took up a teaching profession because I hope for the bright future of children after they receive a good education right from the beginning,” she says. These stories of incredible impact always touch the hearts of our team, but Tamalika’s story is extra special to us. Your Partner for Children Director, Charlotte, met Tamalika as a young, bright 12-year-old in Nepal. To see her story come full circle brings tears to Charlotte’s eyes. “I met this incredible girl eight years ago and knew she was going to change the world. Tamalika is like so many other young girls and boys that our Partner for Children community support. I’m so grateful for their continued support,” says Charlotte. Thanks to the support and programs Save the Children provides with your help, generations of children like Tamalika have the best chance for survival and success later on in life!

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Humanitarian Response in PeruWhen 12-year-old Cesar and his family fled economic insecurity and violence in Venezuela and sought refuge in Peru, he quickly found a way to fit in through Save the Children’s school tutoring program for Venezuelan children.

With your help, we distribute school kits to families like Cesar’s who can’t afford school supplies for their children. Children are also invited to tutoring sessions where those with learning difficulties receive help with their schoolwork and their adaptation to the Peruvian educational system.

The tutoring class is like a second family for many children like Cesar. His caring teachers and the skills and knowledge he’s gained from the tutoring program have instilled a new confidence in him.

Your generous support helps children displaced by crises throughout the world adapt to new environments and continue to learn, play and grow.

Visit savethechildren.org/cesar to watch a heartwarming video from Cesar’s program in Peru.

“I’m very excited to be joining Save the Children U.S. at this point in time, with an organization in such a strong position and the opportunity to use its great expertise even more for the most marginalized children across the world,” – Janti

EMERGENCY UPDATES

Spotlight on Syria, and the Border CrisisEvery day, millions of Syrian children live with the chaos and dangers of war. Innocent boys and girls grow up in fear for their own lives and the lives of those they love.

Since an escalation of violence, the humanitarian needs of the thousands of people displaced in Northeast Syria are acute, from basic shelter to clean water and food. Today, more than 74,000 children remain away from their homes, with many living in schools, abandoned buildings or even tents set up hastily in open fields.

Save the Children and partners inside Syria and neighboring countries continue to work tirelessly to reach Syrian children and families with food, shelter, water and sanitary services, and access to medical care, education and child protection activities.

Here in the U.S., Save the Children works in transit shelters to care for migrants after they are released by U.S. Customs & Border Patrol. This programmatic and advocacy work focuses on delivering immediate humanitarian aid to vulnerable children and families who have arrived with nothing.

We provide child-friendly spaces so that children have safe, designated areas to play, socialize and take a break from stress. In these spaces they also receive psychological and emotional support from trained adults. Here, mothers with very young children who need a safe, clean and quiet place to care for and feed their children also find much-needed support.

Your unwavering support helps protect the world’s children from harm and ensures their rights are upheld. Together, we continue to create change for children that lasts a lifetime — thank you.
