WHY LEPC? WHY NOW?

Your Local Employment Planning Council (LEPC) Mandate: The purpose of the LEPC pilot is to create a network of intermediaries aimed at improving conditions in local communities through expanded collection and dissemination of local labour market information, and community engagement to drive local approaches in the planning and delivery of employment and training services. We will:

Engage all stakeholders to create an easy to navigate system that Employers, Job Seekers, Educators and Service Providers can use. Develop a detailed understanding of the current available services and community resources that serve our local community, while identifying gaps.

CURRENT STATE ANALYSIS: Research indicates that thereis a need for more detailed labour market information, whileproviding a centralized hub connecting employers, industry associations and sector groups with the appropriate employment and training services to meet their workforce needs.

Working to advance our local labour market

LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION & INTELLIGENCEWe will expand current understanding of local labour market issues and needs and improve access to labour market information resources.

SERVICE COORDINATION FOR EMPLOYERSWe will act as a hub to connect employers, industry associations, sector groups and other employer groups with appropriate employment and training services to address their workforce development needs.

RESEARCH & INNOVATIONWe will collaborate with community stakeholders to develop projects related to the research and piloting of innovative approaches to address local labour market issues or opportunities.

SHARING BEST PRACTICES & PROMISING APPROACHESWe will work with provincial and community organizations, including other LEPCs, to identify and share local best practices that could inform actions in other areas.

INTEGRATED PLANNINGWe will serve as a central point of contact and key facilitator for linking employers, service providers, other ministries and levels of government and other community groups to identify and respond to labour market and workforce development challenges and opportunities, and gaps in employment and training and human and social services, through collaboration.

Develop the 2016 Peel Halton EmployerSurvey report on employer hiring practices; challenges; HR issues and industry trends.

Produce a map of available training and employment support services to support Peel & Halton regions.

External Research Project: PromoteHigh Skills Good Jobs - A report which will highlight the opportunities and challenges related to high-skilled jobsthat are present in Peel & Halton, and insights relevant to a range of labourmarket stakeholders.market stakeholders.

Research Project - Focus on Manufacturing - A Report that identifieskey workforce challenges for local manufacturers and recommendsconcrete strategies for subsequent action.

Internal Research Project - Develop a collective employer strategy and action plan to seamlessly fulfill the HR needs of employers and jobseekersin Peel & Halton.

Develop and pilot an online blog on the LEPC website to share best practices that arise from the LEPC pilots.

DELIVERABLES

Develop and pilot a hub for employers to tap into employment services andprograms in Peel & Halton.
