Steel grade innovationsThe range of Sour Service steel grades specially designed to withstand the corrosive environments associated with deep water offshore applications was extended in 2009 with the introduction of VM125SS.

CCS: Carbon Capture Storage Vallourec has launched studies related to the capture and underground storage of carbon dioxide, particularly in salt-water aquifers in porous rock formations, where carbon dioxide can easily be stored in liquid form. The Group’s R & D teams, together with numerous partners, are involved in several carbon dioxide capture and storage projects, researching for improvements in the strength and resistance of well system components.

Xi'an Baotimet Valinox Tubes Co., Ltd is a joint-venture: 49%-owned by Valtimet, 40% by the Chinese titanium products specialist Baoti, and 11% by Timet. The plant produces high quality titanium welded tubes to serve the Chinese power generation, chemical processing industries and desalination markets.

Changzhou Carex Valinox Components Co., Ltd produces high quality welded stainless steel heat exchanger tubes for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems. The plant includes state of the art equipment and advanced environmental & safety measures. The plant is certified ISO/TS-16949.


V & M Changzhou Co., Ltdis a state of the art plant. It produces large OD seamless alloy and high alloy pipes mainly dedicated to the power generation market (boiler and piping system) and other industrial applications. Highly dedicated to safety and environmental protection,V & M Changzhou is certified OHSAS 18001 in health and safety, ISO 9001in quality, ISO 14001 in environment.

Changzhou Valinox Great Wall Welded Tube Co., Ltd is the first investment of the Group in China. The plant runs 7 welding lines to manufacture welded stainless steel tubes. Changzhou Valinox Great Wall Welded Tube was recently honored as star and advanced enterprise by the City of Changzhou. The plant is certified ISO 9001.

Valinox Nucléaire Tubes (Guangzhou) Co., Ltdmanufactures steam generator tubes to serve the fast growing Chinese nuclear power program.Operations start in 2012.

VAM Changzhou Oil and Gas Premium Equipments Co., Ltdis a joint venture between Vallourec Group (51%), Sumitomo Metals (34%), and Sumitomo Corp. (15%).The plant is a modern and efficient facility, which delivers VAM® premium tubes and connections to the Oil and Gas fields located in China. Awarded “First Investor” in Changzhou City, the plant is certified OHSAS 18001 in health and safety, ISO 9001 in quality, ISO 14001 in environment and VAM®.

Tianda Oil Pipe Co., Ltd is a Chinese OCTG producer in which Vallourec acquired an interest of 19.5%. As part of the cooperation agreement, VAM Changzhou will thread Tianda Oil Pipe products locally to serve the Chinese premium OCTG market.

petrochemical plant (Ethylene Cracker) in Singapore.

Hydrocracking is a conversion process used to produce

diesel fuel. This process operates under high pressure and

temperature conditions in a corrosive environment; and,

V & M Tubes produces seamless steel tubes and pipes for power stations and industrial boilers which meet particularly stringent quality requirements. Matched to the service conditions of the plants, they are available in high-temperature steels and every required size: from small-diameter boiler tubes in lengths of up to 25 metres to large-diameter pipes for boiler drums and hot steam lines. V & M Tubes operates production sites in Europe, Brazil, USA and China. This variety of production facilities enables us to choose the most suitable production process for each product.

Thanks to the strategic agreement signed with Tubacex S.A. in the fields of technical customer service, R & D and commercial collaboration, V & M Tubes can propose seamless stainless steel products for power generation application. Also, our commercial partnership with Salzgitter Mannesmann Précision (SMP) gives us the possibility to complete our range with cold drawn tubes.

VM12-SHC

The newly-developed VM12-SHC 12% chromium

steel alloy, designed for use at extra-high

temperatures, is now being used industrially in

high efficient, ultra-supercritical power plants.

The key feature of this steel in terms of innovation

is its outstanding steam oxidation resistance.

T/P24

T/P24 steel developed by V & M Tubes, unlike

martensitic steels, requires no post-weld heat

treatment (for WT inferior to 10 mm). Therefore,

it allows a technically optimal solution for the

construction of boiler superheaters, reheaters

and waterwall panels. The higher creep

resistance of T/P24 results in a considerable

wall thickness reduction!


Did you know? V & M Tubes expands the V & M Changzhou plant:

Using a new proprietary technology (PFP™), this

extension will allow the production of 60,000

tons of seamless pipes per year to serve the

local demand for power plants. V & M Changzhou

plant will produce premium tubes specifically

designed to meet the needs of the new generation

of Supercritical and Ultra-supercritical coal-fired

power plants. The operations will start by mid 2012.

By using a special ladle treatment during steel production, all V & M mecaplus™ grades have a much better machinability compared to standard stock material and even the EN standard. This ensures a longer life-time for the cutting tools and keeps the productivity of the machining equipment at a high level. V & M mecaplus™ grades combine much higher mechanical properties with excellent weldability by using a low-alloying concept.

Our dedicated teams for steel construction projects ensure a swift response to the

special demands of this business segment. For all PREON® projects or upon request, we

accompany our client in an advisory capacity from the planning and execution stages until

after the project’s completion. Specialists in the fields of statics, project management,

quality monitoring, building site control, inspection and aftercare are available on request.

During the project phase, each construction stage is documented and reported punctually

to the customer.

Did you know? Airbus chose our PREON® roof girder system for

the structure of a 12,000m2 building which needed

a single span width of 60 m to assemble parts for

the A350 XWB (extra wide body).

the 124 meter antenna that will be erected on

the top of the Freedom Tower in New York. It will

From standard to custom-made tubes in high strength steels, V & M Tubes offers a wide variety of structural and reinforcement tubes for all types of civil engineering and construction applications.

Circular, square and rectangular hollow sections are used as modern structural elements in the most varied fields of engineering. In building construction, exciting concepts can be realized by integrating hollow sections into the facade design. In steel structures, as well as mechnical engineering, MSH sections are used for their favorable behavior under compression and torsional loads or multi-axial bending stresses. Usually, the sections are directly welded together without the need for joint straps or stiffening plates allowing for lightweight structures. A point worthy of special mention is the excellent weldability of MSH sections, due to the uniform microstructure produced by hot forming in the normalizing temperature range.
