There are three vacancies coming up in 2011 for your VLFCU Board of Directors. To fi ll these seats on the Board, two of which carry three year terms and a third which carries a two year term, an election by all eligible members will be held in March.

After serving three consecutive terms, Jim Vaccaro has decided to retire from Board at the end of his current commitment. Thank you, Jim, for your dedicated and loyal service to the credit union over the past nine years. Your enthusiastic participation on the Board has helped to guide us to achieve our goal of becoming the premier fi nancial institution in the area.

Current board members, Martha Thompson and Marcia Renande, have notifi ed the Nominating Committee of their interest to run for a second and third term respectively.

Martha has been a member of VLFCU over 25 years and recently stated that “as a board member, it has been an inspiration and rewarding experience to be involved with the management team as it has grown and developed into a dynamic and innovative group.” Martha is a graduate of the Providence School of Nursing and has been employed by Firelands Regional Medical Center, Erie County Health Department and Cedar Point. She and her husband Fred have two adult children and live in Sandusky.

Marcia Renande, also a Sandusky native, recently retired from Firelands Regional Medical Center after 33 years of service. She is a LEADS (LEC — Leadership Erie County) graduate and also an active board member for Kinship, Inc. She has been married to Ron Renande for 42 years and has two daughters

Department of Jobs and Family Services, who was also in attendance. Both events were successful in delivering a message of hope, and improving the quality of life for so many in need in our community. Because of our CAS, local families didn’t have to worry about having enough to eat or how to make Christmas a little brighter for their children.

Change is about people, and the Change Agent Squad is always looking for more like-minded individuals with a passion for service and community improvement. The CAS has a full slate of events scheduled for 2011 and we are poised to make community improvement a priority in 2011. If you, your son, or daughter are interested in becoming a member of the VLFCU Change Agent Squad, be sure to “like” us on Facebook and let us know. After all, every one of us is already a change agent, because all of us have the ability to infl uence others. VacationLand FCU is indeed fortunate to have assembled such an outstanding group of young members to gently remind us of our continued responsibility to — and involvement in — our neighborhoods. Our thanks to these dedicated youths who give so unselfi shly of their time and talents.

Debit Or Credit?Quite a common phrase — one heard every time we shop with a debit card. You might fi nd yourself wondering, “Which do I choose?” “Why does the cashier care?” “Why should I care?” You should care. Because every time you choose Debit over Credit your credit union loses income. Income that is used to support the network that affords you the convenience to use plastic instead of cash, which in turn provides increased safety. The cashier cares because, you don’t pay this charge, the merchant does. And even though it is their share of supporting this network, when you choose Debit they pay less and we pay more. Further, you should care because there is regulation currently under review by Congress that would limit what income your credit union can earn on these Credit transactions — making offering Debit cards that much more expensive. So, which do you choose? Choose Credit.

her, you should care because there is ntlouditraDeex

Are you a primary account holder at VLFCU, a senior

in high school, and plan to pursue professional,

vocational, or academic studies that are not limited

to colleges and universities? If you answered

“yes”, now is the time to apply for one of six VLFCU

scholarships being awarded in April.

This scholarship program was established to recognize and honor student members based upon leadership and citizenship, without regard to fi nancial need. and three grandchildren. As a VLFCU Board of Director, Marcia stated that she “will continue to work with the current Board of Directors to strategize to provide the best services and rates for our members...”

The Nominating Committee has also added Richard Howell and Robert Daniel to the list of candidates.

Richard (Dick) Howell was employed at New Departure/Delphi for 32 years where he worked in the Model Shop before retiring in 2007. He and his wife, Linda, have been married for 43 years, live in Sandusky and were also together in the apartment rental business for 12 years. They have three grown sons and two grandchildren.

Although Robert Daniel is fairly new to VLFCU, he has been a credit union member since 1952. He held Passbook #5 in the Grill Meat’s Employees’ State Credit Union, serving as its Treasurer for the fi rst 15 years and other offi ces and committees for the following 15 years. His experience also includes several non-profi t boards, including Goodwill Industries, Catholic Cemeteries of Sandusky, the Pines Retreat Center in Fremont, and 16 years on the St. Mary’s High School Finance Committee.

In addition to the above candidates provided by the Nominating Committee, nominations may also be accepted from the membership by petition. A minimum of 150 signatures and a maximum of 500 signatures must be collected and fi led with the Secretary of the Board by February 15, 2011. Petitions may be sent to the Board Secretary at 2409 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870. Printed ballots will be sent to eligible credit union members no later than March 1, 2011, and all executed ballots must be returned by March 25. The annual meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, March 30, at which time the Chairman of the Board will announce the election results.
