...Your.Daily.Fix.................HANTAVIRUS CAUSES ONE DEATHgov.ca - Health officials have confirmed one death in west central Saskatchewan from complications resulting from han-tavirus. The deceased person was an adult male in the Heartland Health Region. A sec-ond death in the same health region is being investigated to determine if it was also caused by hantavirus. Officials do not believe the cases are connected. No other identifying details are being re-leased.Hantavirus infection is a rare but po-
tentially fatal illness, typically associ-ated with exposure to contaminated airborne particles from the droppings, urine, and saliva of infected rodents, like deer mice. Exposure can hap-pen when sweeping or vacuuming out buildings (such as cottages and sheds) that were infested by rodents. It can also be contracted by rodent bite, if the skin is broken. “Symptoms of hantavirus include fe-ver, muscle aches, cough, headaches, nausea, and vomiting,” Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said.

Well cared for 3 bedroom mobile home - available for immediate possession.
MLS#466576
“If a person develops a fever, coughing and shortness of breath within one to six weeks of exposure to mouse-infest-ed areas, they need to seek immediate medical attention.” In rare cases, symptoms may get worse and lead to Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), a rare but often fatal illness. HPS can progress rapidly into serious lung complications. “The people who are most often ex-posed are farmers, grain handlers, cottagers, campers and home owners,” Ministry of Health Zoonotic Diseases Consultant Phil Curry said. “Everyone should take precautions when cleaning rodent-infested areas to prevent direct contact and inhalation of air particles that may be contaminated.” Exposure to hantavirus can be re-duced by: - Ventilating the building by opening doors and windows for at least 30 min-utes before cleaning, using wet mop-ping methods and wearing gloves; - Blocking openings that might allow rodents to enter a building; - Storing human and animal food, water and garbage in containers with tightly-fitted lids; - Keeping yards clean, and storing woodpiles above the ground and away from the home; -Being aware of animal droppings and nesting materials when cleaning a home or community and taking appro-priate precautions to avoid exposure; and - Dampening areas contaminated with rodent droppings with bleach disin-fectant and removing droppings with a damp mop or cloth to reduce the
chance the virus may become airborne. Avoid using dry cleaning methods such as dusting, sweeping, vacuuming or air-hosing. Including the most recent confirmed case this year, there have been 24 cases of hantavirus and seven deaths report-ed in Saskatchewan since 1994. For more information about hantavi-rus and how to prevent infection, vis-it the Ministry of Health’s website at www.health.gov.sk.ca/hantavirus and HealthLine Online at www.health.gov.sk.ca/healthline-online. Guidelines for workplaces with heavy infestations are available at www.lrws.gov.sk.ca/hantavirus-disease-guide-lines-protecting-workers-public.

Top Ten Signs You’re Golfing Too Much
- When you pick up something off the floor, you have to lean on your putter- The only number on your speed dial is 1-800-TEETIME.- You have your priorities in order: food, shelter, greens fees, job.- You dream you go to prison but still get conjugal visits with your driver.- You tell the lost motorist that the gas station is only a par 4 away on the left.- You’d like to take off your glove but hey, why bother?- Whenever you see a hole in the ground, you squat, squint and read the line.- You’re vaguely aware of living with a woman, allegedly your wife- You ask the shopper ahead in the checkout line if you can play through.- Before you pick up the salt shak-er, you mark its position with a dime.

YOUR INDIVIDUAL HOROSCOPE
FOR RELEASE THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 2013
BY FRANCIS DRAKE
What kind of day will tomorrow be? To find out what the stars say, read the fore-cast given for your birth sign.
For Friday, June 28, 2013ARIES(March 21 to April 19)Be patient with siblings, neighbors
and daily contacts today, because othersare sensitive and might take issue withsomething you say. (Not everyone is asbold in his or her speech as you are.)
TAURUS(April 20 to May 20)Squabbles about possessions or
money might erupt today. Keep in mindthat this is a brief influence, and if youare patient, it will just pass away and beforgotten.
GEMINI(May 21 to June 20)Be patient in dealing with bosses, par-
ents, teachers, VIPs and the police today. You might lose it while talking to anauthority figure. (How smart would thatbe?)
CANCER(June 21 to July 22)Avoid controversial subjects like poli-
tics, religion and racial issues today, because people are argumentative. Infact, some are just looking for an excuseto fight.
LEO(July 23 to Aug. 22)This is a poor day to discuss issues
regarding inheritances, shared property, taxes and debt, because people are tootouchy. Postpone these discussions forthe weekend or late next week.
VIRGO(Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)Lighten up and be tolerant with part-
ners and close friends. Why fight orsquabble? Anger serves no purposeexcept to make everyone miserable.
LIBRA(Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)Remember your objective at work
today. This means you will gain nothingby fighting with a co-worker. After all,
© 2013 King Features Syndicate, Inc.
you have to get along day after day, right?
SCORPIO(Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)Parents need to be patient with chil-
dren today. Similarly, lovers need to bepatient with romantic partners, becausetoday it’s easy to be irritated.
SAGITTARIUS(Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)Avoid domestic squabbles by demon-
strating grace under pressure. It takesonly one in the family to promote goodfeelings, and that person can be you. (Bea role model.)
CAPRICORN(Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)Rash actions or hasty words might get
you in hot water today. Avoid airing yourgrievances with family members, because this is not the day to do it.Mum’s the word.
AQUARIUS(Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)Think twice before you speak or do
anything today, because your own feel-ings of irritation might trigger an acci-dent. Lighten up and go with the flow.
PISCES(Feb. 19 to March 20)Don’t exaggerate your response to
others or fall into victim mode today.(You know who you are.) Many peoplefeel irritated and frustrated. And so itgoes. (But this is very brief. No biggie.)
YOU BORN TODAY You are wittyand entertaining, in large measure, because you react to life with your emo-tions. You’re all heart. When you wantsomething, you go after it. You’re a nat-ural leader, and you like to be appreci-ated. You’re likable because, in turn, youlike people. Work hard to build and con-struct something in your year ahead, because your rewards soon follow.

• 1981: Terry Fox dies. One month before his 23rd birthday, Terry Fox died peacefully at the Royal Co-lumbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. Terry’s “Marathon of Hope” was a cross-Canada run on an artificial leg to raise money for cancer research. Ter-ry was forced to end his run near Thunder Bay, Ont., when his cancer returned. The flags on all Canadi-an federal buildings were lowered to half-mast from Terry’s death until his funeral. Terry’s legacy lives on in the annual Terry Fox Run. Over $500 million has been raised for cancer research in Terry’s name.
Also on this date . . . • 1914: Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife are assassi-nated in Sarajevo, Bosnia. The event triggers the First World War.• 1968: The Husky Tower is officially opened. The 190-metre structure is the tallest of its kind in North America. Husky Oil Canada and Marathon Realty de-veloped it. In 1971 it was renamed the Calgary Tower.• 1982: Igor Gouzenko, the former Soviet embassy cipher clerk in Ottawa, dies in Mississauga, Ont. His 1945 defection and revelation of a Soviet spy ring in Canada created a sensation and forced him into a life of hiding.

FUNNY AND INTERESTING FACTS www.bootstrike.comPlease note that some of the ‘facts’ below have been prov-en false myths. An example is the duck’s echo which does not echo (but proved that it does).
The final resting-place for Dr. Eugene Shoemaker - the Moon. The famed U.S. Geological Survey astronomer, trained the Apollo astronauts about craters, but never made it into space. Mr. Shoemaker had wanted to be an astronaut but was rejected because of a medical problem. His ashes were placed on board the Lunar Prospector spacecraft before it was launched on January 6, 1998. NASA crashed the probe into a crater on the moon in an attempt to learn if there is water on the moon. The original IBM-PCs, that had hard drives, referred to the hard drives as Winchester drives. This is due to the fact that the original Winchester drive had a model number of 3030. This is, of course, a Winchester firearm.
