CRoP REPoRt FoR thE PERiod May 6 to 12, 2014gov.ca - Seven per cent of the 2014 crop is now seeded, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report. Rela-tively dry weather has allowed many pro-ducers to get in the field, while others will begin seeding by the weekend. The five-year (2009-2013) average for this time of year is nine per cent seeded. Significant seeding progress was made in the southwestern region this week, and producers now have 20 per cent of the crop in the ground. The southeastern re-gion has six per cent of the crop seeded, the west-central and northwestern re-gions five per cent, the east-central region two per cent and the northeastern region
less than one per cent. Little precipitation was reported in most of the province. Some southern areas re-ceived around 25 millimetres. Many pro-ducers continue to deal with cold ground and wet fields that are delaying seeding and plant growth. Across the province, cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 20 per cent surplus, 79 per cent adequate and one per cent short. Hay land and pasture topsoil mois-ture is rated as 12 per cent surplus, 83 per cent adequate and five per cent short. Farmers are busy moving cattle, apply-ing herbicides and seeding. tENtatiVE aGREEMENt REaChEd With PRoV-iNCE’S tEaChERSgov.ca - The Government-Trust-ee Bargaining Committee and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) have arrived at a tentative provincial collec-tive bargaining agreement. The offer includes a total compensation increase of 7.3 per cent over four years as well as a $700 pro-rated payment in the first year. There will be funding for teachers in years three and four of the agreement in recognition of associated fees upon the establishment of a new teacher regulatory and disciplinary body in Saskatch-ewan. “The Saskatchewan School Boards Association and gov-ernment representatives have worked hard on this agree-ment with the STF,” Gov-ernment-Trustee Bargaining Committee spokesperson Connie Bailey said. “We are hopeful that this agreement will be ratified by the parties involved.” The agreement deals with articles that are required by legislation to be bargained provincially by the Govern-
ment-Trustee Bargaining Committee and the Saskatch-ewan Teachers’ Federation. A commitment has also been made to address other import-ant matters that fall outside of the agreement and bargaining process, including issues such as student and teacher time and developing a common understanding of the expecta-tions put upon teachers.

When winter’s here, I want to hibernate. Spend evenings huddled on the sofa with a heated blanket, a cup of tea and a good book. Toss ingredients into the slow cooker and eat soups and stews for dinner. Wear comfy, fuzzy pajamas and slippers. (Come to think of it, the heavy food might have something to do with the desire to hibernate). But once the holidays are over, sometimes it feels like a long, dull wait before spring arrives. Deep cleaning my house doesn’t even cross my mind. Then as the weather starts to warm up, I emerge from my cave (so to speak) and realize that the basic cleaning routine I go through every week is mostly just scratching the surface. Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal; why not make that go for your house as well? Spring cleaning is a time-honored ritual for a reason -- the fresh air and greenery outdoors make us want to prettify our indoor spaces, too. It just makes us feel better. But if the mere thought seems overwhelming, here are a few tips to get you started.
7. DeCLutteR fIRSt
Spring cleaning is kind of a misnomer because it’s just about cleaning. If all you do is shuffle piles of stuff to clean around them and then put them back, sure, your stack of VHS tapes is cleaner, but is your living room ambiance really better off for all of your hard work? Be-fore you can clean, you have to declutter and organize. There are lots of ways to go about it, but the easiest is to set up three different bins (or boxes, whatever works): keep, toss and donate/sell. With each item, ask yourself what this particular thing is doing for you. If the answer is nothing but it’s still calling to you, next decide whether you could be happy with just taking a picture of it (I’m thinking of some of those souvenir tchotchkes gathering dust). If you don’t even want a picture of the thing, then why is it sitting on your shelf? A common mistake is to let the donate/sell bin stagnate. Make time to deal with those items accordingly so you don’t have that staring you in the face in the midst of your otherwise sparkling clean home. Once you have your “keep” items, think about how you can better organize them. If you’re a cooking magazine hoarder (guilty as charged), go through the magazines, pull out the recipes you just have to make and haven’t gotten around to yet, and either put them in a binder or scan them in. Recycle the rest. You can find inexpensive baskets and bins in all sizes at thrift stores or dollar stores.

Two monkeys were sitting in a tree and two lions were sleeping below them. One monkey said to the other monkey “I dare you to go down there
and kick one of those lions in the rear end.” The other monkey said o.k. I’ll go down there and
kick him in the rear end as hard as I can. So he goes down the tree and kicks the lion as hard as he can and takes off swinging through the trees.
The lion starts to chase him. He keeps getting closer, and closer until the monkeys thinks
“Man I better do something quick or that lion is going to eat me for lunch. So he keeps swinging
until the lion is pretty far behind him and he sees a newspaper lying on the ground. So he picks it up and starts to read it. All of a sudden the lion
catches up to him and says, “Did you see a monkey run by here?” The monkey goes,
“You mean the one that kicked that lion in the rear end?” And the lion says,
“Dang it was in the paper already?”

• The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% mental.• If you want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age.• Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group of three.• When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again.• Any change works for a maximum of three holes and a minimum of not at all.• No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse• Never keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing.• When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls.
