'Proof' to benefit South Coast Family Harbor

COOS BAY - Logos Players will present the Pulitzer-prize winning play "Proof," opening at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, on Gloria Dei Lutheran Church stage at 1290 Thompson Road in Coos Bay. The show will run two weekends with the production starting at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights and at 2 p.m. for Sunday matinees. There is complimentary childcare avail-able in the nursery during every perfor-mance provided by Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. All seats are $10 and tickets are available online at logosplayers.eventbrite.com or by calling 541-267-2347 between 9

a.m. and 2 p.m.On the surface, "Proof" is a play about

a mathematical proof and the attempt to prove its author's identity. But the real story is the personal interaction of the four characters in the show; they are authentic and relatable. "Proof" deals with depres-sion, grief, loss, love and humor.

Since its inception in 2009, Logos Players has donated proceeds from its pro-ductions to local nonprofit organizations. Proceeds from "Proof" will support South Coast Family Harbor, a child abuse and neglect prevention program.

LANGLOIS - The Langlois Lions will host their Famous Spaghetti Feed Saturday, April 6, at the Lions Club, 48136 on Floras Lake Loop, Langlois. This benefit event is ear-marked for the club's 2019 Pacific High School $1,000 scholarship. The event promises to be a lot of fun and all for a good cause.

Dinner starts at 5 p.m. with the dessert auction to follow. The dinner menu includes spaghetti with

gourmet sauce, fancy cole-slaw, garlic bread and drinks (coffee, tea and punch). A vegetarian option will be available. Cost for dinner is by donation.

Additionally communi-ty members are cordially invited to bring a favorite dessert, maybe even a world famous one to be donated to the auction, even if they can't attend, it will be appreciated. Donations may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday,

March 5, or starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. The commu-nity generosity and the donations add to the event and help make a qualified senior student at Pacific High School happy, espe-cially when planning their futures.

OREGON COAST - The Spring Whale Watch Week event returns to the coast March 23-31 to celebrate the more than 20,000 Gray whales expected to migrate north past Oregon over the next few months.

Trained volunteers from the Whale Watching Spoken Here program will be stationed 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each day at 24 sites along the coast, ready to help visitors spot the migrating mammals. A map of the volunteer-staffed sites is available on whalespoken.org.

South Coast Whale Watching Spoken here sites include: Sea Lion Caves Turnout in Florence; Umpqua Lighthouse State Park in Reedsport; Shore Acres State Park in Charleston; Face Rock Scenic Viewpoint in Bandon; Battle Rock Wayside in Port

Orford; and Harris Beach State Park in Brookings.?

An online live stream of whale activity in Depoe Bay returns this spring too. Watch it on the Oregon State Parks YouTube channel during the event.

Gray whales migrate north along the coast of the western U.S. annually during spring; they return to Alaskan waters after wintering in the warm lagoons off the coast of Baja, Mexico. Many of the Gray whales will be accompanied by their new calves, born during the winter. The first large groups of whales pass by Oregon mid-March and the migratory stream typi-cally continues into June.
