Youth consents (Ages 12-17)

• Birth control (e.g., condoms, pills, “the shot”)

• Plan B (Morning After Pill)

• STI/HIV Testing

• Pregnancy testing

• Health Education services

• Mental Health/Substance Abuse Counseling*

• Other sensitive services

STI Testing: Diagnosis and Treatment

•STI = Sexually Transmitted Infections

•Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are most commonly tested

Mental Health/Substance Abuse Counseling

•Free counseling

•Talk about anything that is bothering you

Confidentiality

Anything you say about sex, drugs, and feelings is CONFIDENTIAL unless you give the health care provider permission to share it.

When Confidentiality is Broken If you tell him/her:

• You are being abused (physically and/or sexually)

• You are going to hurt yourself or someone else

• You are under 14 and having sex with someone 14 years or older

• You are under 16 and having sex with someone 21 years or older

Then he/she must report to Child Protective Services

*All youth have the right to an assessment for counseling services without parental permission; after the assessment, it is determined if parental consent is needed
