Objectives:To foster opportunities for Trinidad and Tobagos youth to develop a greater understanding of theimportance of sustainable development for the long-term stability of the nations economy.

To develop and train a cadre of youth that can be utilised in the EMAs Volunteer and CommunityProgrammes.

To produce environmental education materials through participatory techniques for use in trainingand communication strategies.

To test the viability of participatory and emancipatory education approaches in youth learning.

For the past four years, the EMA has been facilitating residential Youth Workshops during the JulyAugust vacation.

From 2008, the themes have been People and the Northern Range, Island Biodiversity and SustainableDevelopment, Sustainable Livelihoods Green Living in the 21st Century and Forests for PeopleEach theme allowed campers to develop a comprehensive understanding of the state of the environmenin Trinidad & Tobago, while empowering them to make educated choices in line with sustainability in thefuture.

While all four previous workshops were held in Trinidad, this years moves to Tobago to provide SixthFormers there with the full opportunity to participate. The theme is Green Economy: Does it include

you? in keeping with the United Nations 2012 World Environment Day theme. This two-pronged themeinvites individuals to investigate the idea and the reality of a green economy which, at its essence, islow carbon and resource efficient. It then poses the question of how socially inclusive is each countrysenvironmental policies; does it include each of us?

Campers will be given the opportunity to examine an eco-resorts operations in Tobago and interact withmembers of environmental NGOs, in order to receive practical, current information on the islands currenposition and future options for sustainable development.
