Worms Are Wonderful

READINGRead the following information report about earthworms.Slides 5 & 6As you read use a highlighter to highlight the title, the labelled diagram, classification, sub headings, conclusion .Also highlight any interesting words and discuss their meaning.

IXL:Year 1: S.1 Use conjunctionsYear 2: V.13 Form compound words

Title: Earthworms

Classification Earthworms are annelids, which means ‘ringed’ animal. They are cylindrical animalswithout a backbone (invertebrate).

Labelled Diagram

Fact 1Types Of EarthwormsThere are two main types of earthworms: earthworkers and composting earthworms.Earthworkers are earthworms that live in the soil, creating burrows. These burrows allow air and water to circulate in the soil and make it easier for plant roots to get through the soil.Compost worms do not live in soil; they live in organic matter (anything that was once living), in compost bins or the top layer of soil rich in organic matter, eating it and leaving castings (manure) that fertilise the ground.

Fact 2How they moveEarthworms have two sets of muscles. They have circular muscles around each segment, which the earthworm tightens to stretch out, becoming long and thin. They also have a long set of muscles running along the length of their bodies. These help to move theearthworm, making it shorter and fatter. Earthworms move by using their bristles (setae) to anchor themselves and push through the soil. If they can squeeze into small cracks they force their way through; otherwise they eat their way through

Fact 3How they eatThe mouth of an earthworm is folded in on itself. When earthworms eat, they fold out this front section and pull the soil or organic material back into the top of their digestive tract. The digested remains are pushed out as manure or castings, which make the ground more fertile.

Concluding StatementOur underground friends are pretty amazing.Earthworms are very important to soil health and to plants growing in it . As they burrow, they transport nutrients and minerals from below to the surface through their waste worms are also very important in the food chain. They are food for other important species like birds, lizards and frogs.

Weekly Spelling Sheet Term 4 week 3The digraph ‘ay’ making the sound “A” as in tray. Name:

Learning Intention: To write multiplication sentences with arrays.

Warm-up: Count by 3 | Skip Count by 3 | Skip Counting | Skip Counting Song | Jack Hartmann

Tuning In: Multiplication | Arrays | Array City Craftivity |Teacher Life

Task: .Array City - see next page.

IXL Year 1: W.9 Ten more or lessYear 2: A.1 Skip-counting by twos

Task: Create an Array city by using your multiplication equations to design and craft buildings. THIS WILL CONTINUE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS SO YOU DON’T NEED TO FINISH IT TODAY.

An array is an arrangement of objects in rows and columns. Arrays help us to count things faster.

● It can be good to start with black paper as the background but not necessary.

● You can cut out buildings in different sizes. ● Windows do not need to be the same size

but it is important that the windows are lined up in rows and columns.

● Each building needs to be different. ● If you don’t have cardboard you can draw

instead.

Rows: First number in the equation Columns: Second number in equation

An array is an arrangement of objects in rows and columns.

Arrays help us to count things faster.

Each row and column of windows can be represented as a multiplication equation.

When you have completed your buildings, you will need to write how many rows of windows there are on each building and how many windows in each row.

You then need to complete a repeated addition sentence. See next page.

You will need to write underneath the building:

____ rows of _____

___ + ____ + ____ = _____

Baby Shark - Remix Dance!

This week in Physical Education, we are going to work on our cardiovascular fitness through dance.

Remember that cardiovascular fitness refers to how well your heart pumps oxygen around your body.

There are many ways to work on your cardiovascular fitness and dance is definitely an enjoyable way!

The following link is the baby shark remix dance. Try to follow the steps and enjoy moving to the music! This is one of my favourite dances to do at home with my two kids! You may like to do this with your Mum or Dad, brother or sister or guardian who looks after you.
