The agreements consist of cooperation deals in various fields, including infrastruc- ture construction, financial collaboration, and cultural exchanges, said a spokesper - son with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Some key infrastructure projects, in- cluding the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, have seen fast development with the active participation of Chinese compa- nies, said the spokesperson. More than 4,000 cargo train trips have been made between China and Europe, with the trains passing through 31 cities in 12 European countries. In terms of finance, China has signed currency swap agreements with 22 coun- tries and regions along the Belt and Road, with total size reaching about one trillion yuan (about 150 billion U.S. dollars). In addition, China has signed educa- tional cooperation agreements with more than 60 countries and partnered with the World Health Organization in promoting health projects based on the initiative. The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China in 2013, aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road trade routes to seek common de- velopment and prosperity. The NDRC will continue to push the construction of key projects under the initiative while helping companies imple- ment risk-control mechanisms, preventing irrational overseas investments, said the spokesperson. It is the beginning of autumn. In Jinxiu Art Garden of Yulong Naxi Auton- omous County Baisha Town, He Wen- zhen, a Dongba culture successor, was copying Dongba scriptures. The 42-year-old He Wenzhen is from Mingyinxiang of Yulong County. His grandpa is the 22 nd generation Dongba successor of the family and used to work for the Dongba Culture Institute on scripture translation. “My real systematic study of Dongba culture started in 1999,” said He Wenzhen. To keep the Dongba culture from being lost, seven people were selected from the original Dongba decedent in Lijiang to study systematically at the Dongba Culture Institute. During those three years, with the guidance of the teachers, He Wenzhen systematically learned Dongba scrip- tures, Dongba drawings, the ritual of sacrifice and so on. After his graduation in 2002, He Wenzhen worked for Lijiang City Mu- seum and Yushuizhai Village to explain Dongba culture for tourists. He devoted himself whole heartedly to the Dongba cultural heritage and gradually found out that the explana- tion can only let people know a little bit of the culture. The only way to carry on the culture is to look for someone to study it systematically like himself. For that purpose, he quit his job res- olutely and went back to his hometown in Mingyin. He worked in the fields and, at the same time, looked for candidates who love Dongba culture. Later, he heard that some foreign tourists like to stay in Baisha Old Town and they are also interested in Dongba culture. That gave him the idea of getting foreign friends to learn about Dongba culture so that younger people would also learn about the culture. Consequently, he came to Jinxiu Art Garden in Baisha Old Town and got a job explaining about Dongba culture. “Every day I explain Dongbaculture to at least three foreigners and some- times as many as 10,” said He Wenzhen. In 2009, he was awarded an honour of municipal intangible culture her- itage successor that gives him the re- sponsibility of carrying on the Dongba culture. Now, he explains the culture to foreigners in Baisha Jinxiu Art Garden and gives them hand-copied scriptures as a gift. The purpose of doing this is to promote Dongba culture to the world and let the whole world know about Dongba. On the 19th of August, the Thai Em- bassy in China hosted the 2017 Thai culture day event in its new pavilion. This year, the Thai Culture Day takes the theme of “the beauty of the country and the feast” with the purpose of dis- playing Thai cultural characteristics of smiling, gentleness and friendliness. On that day, there were traditional Thai cultural performances in addition to Thai food displaysand a products exhibition, a Thai Street Food App release conference and Thai food cooking show. For easier access to tourists in Thai- land, the embassy promoted a Street Food App. The street food of famous scenic spots in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and their surround- ing cities can be searched through the App in the three languages of Thai, Eng- lish and Chinese. Tourists can down- load the app from the Apple Store and Google Play. Thai culture day is held to showcase Thailand’s top products and services, to accelerate the development of Thai tourism, and at the same time to promote the Sino-Thai friendship, to draw close the young people in particular. About 1,000 people from foreign embassies in China, the Chinese government and staff of state-owned and private-owned enterprises, media and other Chinese friends from various countries in China attended the event. To lead the Chinese people in their pursuit of a better life is an unswerving goal of the Communist Party of China, President Xi Jinping reiterated in a speech at a recent meeting of provin- cial and ministerial-level officials. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, Xi has repeatedly stressed a people-oriented develop- ment philosophy and made a series of important remarks on how to improve people’s livelihoods, while vowing not to let any person get left behind in the efforts to build a well-off society in an all-around way. Xi insists that the country’s reform programs should make people feel a sense of gain and efforts to promote the rule of law should make people feel the justice in every judicial deci- sion. Talking of the Party’s campaign to promote stricter self-governance, he says the key aim is to strengthen the Party’s bond with the people. Under the guidance of Xi’s remarks and thoughts, China has taken a series of measures to extend the country’s development fruits to more people over the past five years, which has greatly boosted people’s sense of gain and hap- piness. This attests to the Party’s gov- ernance philosophy that its efforts to improve people’s livelihoods will never come to an end, and the Party’s ideolog- ical pursuit to ensure ordinary people can live fulfilling lives is the starting point and also the objective of its work. "Always getting better"—How the Chinese dairy

industry is staging a comebackEditor’s Note:In this issue, the

column Chinese Story will focus on China’s supply side reforms.

In an era of increased health con-

cerns, the Chinese people now have

higher requirements and more diversi-

fied demands for the quality and varie-

ty of dairy products they purchase.

With consumers requiring safer-

food, how can companies provide

people of different ages and physical

constitutions with dairy products of

high quality and good taste?

Li Jie may have the answer. She is a

first-line manager at Heilongjiang Wan-

dashan Dairy Company Limited.Over

how the domestic dairy industry has

Li Jie found that each and every

are always trying to get better.

Li Jie f i rst began to work at

calves, growing cows and lactating

cows, gradually are provided their

own living spaces. Corn silage, calf

breeding and frozen sperm breeding

techniques are also put into use. On

of making dairy products. “I deeply

feel that product quality is like a

good care of to grow up healthy

and strong,” Li Jie said. How can

we keep milk fresh for a long time?

How can we prevent raw milk from

being contaminated by microbes?

What temperature sterilizes the milk,

facilitates processing and minimizes

the loss of nutrients? When you find

the answers to these questions, the

product quality can be assured.

“Now, I’m mainly responsible for

the production department. I’m most

concerned about the quality of infant

dairy products. In our factory, the most

frequently overheard idea is ‘we are an
