This task requires 1 person.Time required is 35 minutes.

Steps 4 to 37.

6Insert two screws into the two forward holes.Leave sufficient space between the screw headsand the leg to attach the take-up reel motor.

2Turn off the printer by pressing the Power buttonon the front panel.

3Turn the Power switch to the Off position at therear of the printer.

1Close the paper bin. Make sure that the cloth ofthe bin is behind the lower cross-brace.

Identify the four holes on the inside of the rightleg. The holes are used to attach the take-upreel motor.

Locate the bag of screws and the screwdriver thatare included in the take-up reel box.

This task requires 1 person.

14Use four screws to attach the take-up reeldeflector supports. The deflector supports can befound in the inner box of the take-up reelpackaging.

9Use the parallel plug to connect the take-up reelmotor to the parallel port at the rear of theprinter.

10Identify the three holes on the inside of the leftleg. The holes are used to attach the left side ofthe take-up reel assembly.

8Use two screws to attach the rear of the take-upreel motor to the stand, and then tighten all fourscrews.

Use one screw to attach the rear of the left sideassembly, and then tighten all three screws.

Attach the left side of the take-up reel assemblyto the two screws, and then pull the take-up reelassembly down so that it rests securely on thescrews.

7Attach the take-up reel motor to the two screws,and then pull the take-up reel motor down so thatit rests securely on the screws.

Insert two screws into the two forward holes.Leave sufficient space between the screw headsand the leg to attach the left side of the take-upreel assembly.

17Slide the sensor unit onto the right foot, and thenuse the screw shown to attach the unit.

Attach the sensor unit to the left side of thecross-brace.

16Move the front right wheel so that it facesforward, and then lock the wheel.

Move the printer toits final location.

IMPORTANT

Remove the take-up reel deflector from the box.

Insert four clips into the cross-brace, and one clipon the printer leg, near the take-up reel motor.

Connect sensor cable to the rear of the take-upreel motor, and then connect the other end of thesensor cable to the sensor unit on the right foot.

Use the clips that you attached in step 15 toattach the sensor cable to the cross-brace andthe right leg.

25Remove the black hub from the box, and thenloosen the plastic nut.

Slide the black hub onto the spindle so that thescrew on the spindle fits into the slot in the hub.

24Remove take-up reel spindle from the core.

Slide the blue hub onto the spindle. Tighten theplastic nut on the blue hub.

Loosen the plastic nut on the blue hub.

Tighten the plastic nut on the black hub.

Carefully lift the central core tube. The centralcore tube contains the take-up reel spindle.

Attach the take-up reel deflector by inserting theleft side of the deflector into the left support, andthen inserting the right side of the deflector intothe right support.

33Turn the Power switch to the On position at therear of the printer.

Turn the printer on by pressing the Power button.

32Install the take-up reel spindle into the printerby pushing firmly on each end of the spindle,and then lower the take-up reel deflector.

Make sure that the cloth of the bin is behind thecross-brace so that it does not block the take-upreel sensors. The assembly of the take-up reel isnow complete.

Attach the core adapters to the hubs if you areusing paper rolls with 3-inch cores.Use a cardboard core when using the take-upreel and a paper roll that has a 3-inch core.

Raise the take-up reel deflector to its uprightposition.

Load the take-up reel

This task requires 1 person.Time required is 5 minutes.

Unlock the take-up reel by pushing the spindlelever to its uppermost position.

Unlock the take-up reel by pushing the spindlelever to its upper most position.

Remove the take-up reel spindle.

The front-panel display guides you through theprocess of loading the take-up reel spindle coreonto the take-up reel spindle. When that task iscomplete, load the take-up reel spindle into theprinter by pushing firmly on both ends of thespindle.

39Raise the take-up reel deflector to its uprightposition.

Decide whether you want to load the take-up reelnow or during printing; in this example it isloaded now.

On the front panel, select the paper icon, andthen select Take-up reel, then select Enable take-up reel.

Paper should be loaded.

On the front panel, select a winding direction.

Use the wind-direction switch on the take-up reelmotor to select the winding direction. Select 1 towind the paper facing in. Select 2 to wind thepaper facing out. Set the switch to match yourchoice in step 46.

Use tape to secure the paper to the spindle core.Do not attempt to pull more paper out of theprinter. To support the weight of the loop-shapingcore, you might need to use more tape than isshown.

Insert the loop-shaping core.

Press OK. The printer advances thepaper.

Assemble the loop-shaping core. The front-paneldisplay shows the required length of theloop-shaping core.Note: The loop-shaping core must be the samewidth as the paper that you are using.

Lower the take-up reel deflector.
