An emergency council meeting was held on April 2 through Zoom to

address loan opportunities with the Payroll Protection Program (PPP). The

federal government began accepting loan applications for the PPP for small

businesses and nonprofit organizations like Zion. The program allows us to

borrow up to 2.5 times the average monthly payroll. The money can be

used to cover payroll, mortgage interest, and utilities. If we retain our

employees at their current salary through June 30 and spend the money on

allowable expenses, all of the loan will be forgiven. If for whatever reason

we are not able to utilize the money for the designated expenses,

payments on the loan are deferred for six months. The loan would be short

term at a low interest rate. However, we anticipate all of the loan will be

forgiven. Go to this website for more information on the PPP:

https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/coronavirus-relief-

options/paycheck-protection-program-ppp

During this time of uncertainty and hurt, the ministry at Zion is needed more than ever. With job losses and sickness, there are financial concerns. After learning more about the PPP, we thought this would be an opportunity to help us through this challenging time. The PPP is a loan. According to Zion’s manual, voters approve any loans. Since we are in a pandemic, we felt a voters meeting was not feasible. However, the manual also allows church council to act on behalf of the voters in times of emergency. Since we felt this was an emergency, we held an emergency council meeting on behalf of the voters. The application was completed and submitted on Friday, April 3.

EMERGENCY COUNCIL MEETING HELD

If you have any questions on the PPP, you can contact

James Rath, Melody Hintz-Rau, or Jerry Cleveland.
