The Elephant's Trunk

The elephant has a great big trunk. (Pretend an arm is the trunk.)

That goes swinging, swinging so. (Swing trunk.) He has tiny, tiny eyes that show him where to go.

(Point to eyes.) His huge long ears go flapping, flapping up and down.

(Pretend hands are ears.) His great big feet go stomping, stomping on the

ground. (Stomp with feet.)

Underneath The Monkey Tree (Sung to: "The Muffin Man")

Come and play a while with me,

Underneath the monkey tree. Monkey see and monkey do, Just like monkeys in the zoo.

Swing your tail, one, two, three, Underneath the monkey tree. Monkey see and monkey do, Just like monkeys in the zoo.

The Yellow Giraffe

The yellow giraffe is tall as can be. (Put hand up high)

His lunch is a bunch of leaves off a tree. (Put arm up for tree branches)

He has a very long neck and his legs are long too. (Point to neck and legs)

And he can run faster than his friends in the zoo. (Run in place)

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

Monkey see, monkey do! Let's watch them in the zoo.

We stare in. (Put left hand up) They look out. (Put right hand; both hands face each

other) We eat popcorn. (Left hand fingers touch the thumb)

They eat popcorn. (Right hand fingers touch the thumb)

We eat fruit. (Right finger sways back and forth) They eat fruit. (Left finger sways back and forth)

We stand up. (Left fingers up) They stand up. (Right fingers up) We sit down. (Left fingers down)

They sit down. (Right fingers down) Monkey see, monkey do.

We do it first and they do it, too!

100 Animals

I went to the zoo

And what did I see? 100 animals

Looking at me. There were,

10 tall giraffes, eating from the trees. 10 silly monkeys, scratching on their knees.

10 sleeping snakes, lying in the sun. 10 munching elephants, eating peanuts one by one.

10 leaping tigers, performing in the shows, 10 pink flamingos, standing on their toes.

10 grouchy bears, trying to get some sleep. 10 happy hippos, in the water deep. 10 roaring lions, walking two by two.

10 galloping zebras, all living in the zoo

100 Animals

• Print up the animals sheets onto white card stock.

• Trim. • Laminate. • Place a small piece of Velcro (rough side)

onto the back of each animal card. • Use on flannel board as you read poem.

One, One, the Zoo is Lots of Fun! (chant)

One, one: the zoo is lots of fun. Two, two: see a kangaroo.

Three, three: see a chimpanzee. Four, four: hear the lions roar.

Five, five: watch the seals dive. Six, six: there's a monkey doing tricks.

Seven, seven: count the elephants - eleven. Eight, eight: a tiger and his mate.

Nine, nine: penguins in a line. Ten, ten: I want to come again!

Keeper in the Zoo (Sung to the Farmer in the Dell")

The keeper in the zoo, the keeper in the zoo, Heigh-ho! The derry-o! The keeper in the zoo.

I know a giraffe.

With a neck that's real high. She stretches and stretches.

till it reaches the sky. She lives on the plains. With the elephants too. You might also see her, when you go to the zoo.

We are going to zoo, To the zoo, to the zoo.

We are going to the zoo, Won't you join us too?

We'll see lions, tigers too, Tigers too, tigers too.

We will find some chimpanzees, Chimpanzees, chimpanzees.

Swing, Swing

Have the children stand in a circle and hold hands. While you recite the following poem, have them swing their arms up and down. Little monkeys swinging in the tree, All hold hands and swing with me. Swing up high and swing down low, Swing in the tree, now don't let go! Swing, swing, like I do. Swing like monkeys in the zoo.

Itsy Bitsy Monkey (Sung to: "Itsy Bitsy Spider")

The itsy bitsy monkey climbed up the coconut tree. Down came a coconut and hit him on his knee - OWWWWW. Out came a lion with a beautiful mane - ANNNNND - The itsy bitsy monkey climbed up the tree again.

The Elephant

The elephant goes like this and that, this and that, this and that.

(Walk heavily and stomp feet loudly) The elephant goes like this and that, cause he's so

big and fat! (Puff up cheeks and stretch out arms)

He has no fingers and has no toes, He has no fingers

and has no toes. (Wiggle fingers; wiggle toes)

He has no fingers and has no toes, But goodness, gracious, what a nose!

(Stick arms out like a long trunk.)

Zebras in a Zoo

Five zebras in a zoo (Wiggle fingers.) The first one said, I need new shoes.

(Touch thumb with other hand) The second said, I do, too.

(Touch index finger with other hand) The third one said, My name is Sue. (Touch middle finger with other hand)

The fourth one said, It’s nice to meet you. (Grab ring finger and shake hands with it)

The Fifth one said, How do you do? (Wave with little finger.)

Elephant's Trunk

The elephant has a trunk for a nose. (bend at waist, hold arms down like trunk)

And up and down is the way it goes. (sway arms) He wears such a saggy, baggy hide. (sway arms)

Do you think two elephants could fit inside? (shrug)

Monkeys swinging on a tree, Zebras and lions grazing free,

Tall giraffes, a sight to see- All in the zoo to visit!

If I Had To Meet a Gorilla

A gorilla is an animal. That's very big and strong,

It has a wrinkled raisin face. And arms so very long. If I had to meet a gorilla, I'll tell you what I'd do.

I'd meet it in the safest place, I'd meet it in a zoo!

An elephant went out to play. On a spider web one day.

He (she) was having so much fun. He (she) invited another one

Come on (child's name) Note: Have your children stand in a circle with one in the middle, each verse have them invite another student in.
