Rebels Challenge Cup Grand Final Day

Last Friday was another wonderful display of representative sport by AVPS students! Our Rugby League team took on the Rebels Challenge Cup Grand Final Day and showed outstanding determination, teamwork and athleticism.

They even came away with a 30-0 win in one of their games! Congratulations to all players for your wonderful sportsmanship and attitude towards the entire competition.

Zoo Snooze excursion

Very early Thursday 7th of September Arcadia Vale Public School had some very excited Stage 2

students ready to start their Zoo Snooze Excursion. Our Stage 2 students had a fantastic time,

going back in time and experiencing the life of a convict at Elizabeth Farm. It was hard work but

our year 3 and 4 students were ready for anything! Students learnt how to do daily chores such as

completing the laundry, preparing meals, setting the table and for some unlucky student emptying

the chamber pot, Ben wasn’t very happy with the last chore!

We continued our excursion travelling to the Sydney Living Museum to learn about Aboriginal Culture and Australia before

the first fleet arrived. Exploring and learning about the different tools Aboriginal people used to hunt and gather with as

well as touching kangaroo fur.

Arriving at Sydney Taronga Zoo the students were excited to see all the different animals. Some students and Miss Murphy

squirmed as we had the chance to pat a children’s python! We were even lucky enough to sleep with the spiders, lizards,

snakes, turtles and frogs. The Sky Safari was great fun allowing everyone to see Taronga Zoo from a bird’s eye view.

We went behind the scenes of the bird show getting up close

and personal with some of the birds. Finally we watched the

clever seals show off their skills and tricks.

Our Stage 2 students did an excellent job of representing our

school; listening to speakers, asking insightful questions and

always using their manners. A thank you to our parents and

carers who joined us and offered a helping hand.

Touch Football Gala Day

On Wednesday 13th September a large handful

of Stage 2 and Stage 3 students participated in

the Touch Football Gala Day at Wallsend. Even

in the dreadful heat and wind Arcadia Vale PS

students stayed positive and gave it their best.

Our students should be very proud of their ef-

forts as many teams had limited players.

Thank you to all our parents and carers who

stepped in to help manage our teams, we

couldn’t have done it without you!

Principal’s Report – Term 3 Week 10

Wow! I can’t believe that we are entering the final week of the term already. My first term at Arcadia Vale Public

School has been very productive and enjoyable. This term has been action packed and the students have been

highly engaged in a variety of quality learning activities within and outside of the classroom on a daily basis.

I’m really looking forward to continuing working with students, staff, parents/caregivers and the wider community

as we head into a busy term 4!

Lining up Winners

Congratulations to 5/6D who were the lining up winners for week 9 and 5/6M &5/6D who were the winners in

week 8. Well done and enjoy your reward!

Week 10

Our final week of term isn’t slowing down with the Book Week parade on Tuesday morning, Book Fair, K-3 and

years 4-6 discos on Tuesday evening! Our P&C meeting is on Wednesday at 5.30pm and everyone is more than wel-

come to attend! Finally on Friday morning we have our big assembly to conclude the term!!

Surveys

Thank you to those people who have provided valuable feedback through the communication survey. The School

Plan survey links are still on our Facebook page to complete if you haven’t already done so. The more feedback and

input we receive the better as we continue to work collaboratively on our 3 year school plan 2018 – 2020.

We hope that you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday break! We look forward to seeing you at the events this

week and back again in term 4!

It has been a colossal Term 3 for students in 5/6D! We have shown outstanding progress with our learning and have been recognised for our EDI lessons, with vis-itors coming from nearby schools to watch our warm ups. We have also juggled many extra-curricular activ-ities, including school gardening, NAIDOC and Fathers Day celebrations, the Shake a Leg Health program, representative sports, Kinder Transition, band and

choir lessons and GATS

We have been challenging ourselves to improve our vocab knowledge. It’s really difficult but it’s fun when being tested! The vocab strategies help us to improve our

writing. (Kate, Saylah & Chloe)

For sport, we have been able to have a go at lawn bowls every Friday at Wangi Bowling Club and many of us have competed at Zone Athletics or played in the netball, touch football and rugby league gala days. (Isabel, Payden, Matthew, Will, Brock & Tom)

Recently, in maths we have been learning to construct and measure angles using protractors. We have also loved singing the angle song to help us remember the types of angles! (Kayl, Ryan, Alex, Connor & Hunter)

With Mrs Toohey, we have been learning about earthquakes. We did an experi-ment using marshmallows to build a structure that could withstand an earth-quake! (Brodie, Olivia, Mikaela, Morgan, Phoebe & Eboney)

During writing, we have learnt a catchy song that helps us remember the structure of a

persuasive text. Watch out – we are expert influencers! (Ashton, Jessie, Cindi, Layla & Maliyan)
