There are numerous sights in the former Roman city of Zurich at which you can marvel. Explore the medieval city center by the shores of the River Limmat, stroll along the famous lakeside promenade or head to modern Zurich-West.

9

FraumünsterOf all Zurich’s church spires, the slender, blue spire of Fraumünster is the most graceful. The church holds a special treasure: three world famous stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall.

Bürkliplatz & Lakeside PromenadeAt the end of the 19th century, a promenade with avenues, lawns and parks was created along the shores of the lake. Bürkliplatz attracts you with a fantastic view of boats navigating on Lake Zurich and a breeze from the lake. On clear days you can even see some Alpine peaks.

Opera HouseAllthough it seats over 1,100 spectators, the Zurich Opera House is one of the smallest international opera houses. It nevertheless offers top quality opera and ballet performances as well as concerts.

LindenhofA marvelous view of the River Limmat and the picturesque Old Town with its towers and roofs can be enjoyed right in the city center. This public square was the site of a Roman fort in the 4th century.

National Museum Zurich The spectacular building next to the city’s main station is reminiscent of a fairytale castle. It houses the National Museum, which boasts the country’s largest cultural and historical collection, and is always worth a visit.

Swiss Casinos ZurichSwitzerland’s largest casino makes gamblers’ hearts beat faster. Try your luck at the Swiss Casinos Zurich, covering 3,000 square meters, with over 300 gaming machines and 24 gaming tables. After a pleasant drink in the comfortable lounge, it’s time for ‘faites vos jeux’ – now, keep your cards close to your chest!

Zurich-WestZurich has the reputation of being one of Europe’s trendiest cities. The lively neighborhood of Zurich-West does a lot to contribute to this image. The former industrial area has been transformed into a hip district, with design stores, contemporary art galleries, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

GrossmünsterWith its twin towers, the Grossmünster is one of Zurich’s most famous landmarks. According to the legend, Charlemagne discovered the graves of the city’s martyrs here and had a church built on the spot.

UetlibergAt 869m (2,850ft) above sea level, Uetliberg towers over the rooftops of Zurich. The mountain offers an impressive panoramic view of the city, the lake and the Alps.

Bahnhofstrasse & ParadeplatzWho hasn’t heard about it? The Bahnhofstrasse is one of the most beautiful shopping streets in Europe. Elegant fashion shops, department stores and retail shops of all sorts attract and delight shopping addicts from all over the world.

Old Town The Old Town is one of Europe’s most well preserved, featuring medieval houses along its countless contorted and narrow lanes. Beside traditional craft workshops, many trendy shops and unique Zurich labels can be found here.

KunsthausThe Kunsthaus Zurich is one of Switzerland’s most important museums. It boasts a noteworthy permanent art collection spanning from the Middle Ages to modern art, and is also renown for its temporary exhibitions.

ETH & UniversityThe terrace in front of the imposing building of the world famous Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) offers a fantastic view of the Old Town. The University of Zurich, which lies just next to the ETH, can be reached with the Polybahn funicular.

FIFA World Football MuseumCovering approx. 3,000 square meters (32,500sq.ft) of exhibition space, the museum examines all aspects of the world of football. An interactive world illustrates how the game stirs people’s emotions on a daily basis.

Grand Tour Highlights Zurich Region In the Zurich region, the Grand Tour of Switzerland extends from Rapperswil to Zurich and on as far as the Rhine Falls, offering countless scenic, cultural and gastronomic experiences along this breathtakingly beautiful route. The highlights of the Zurich section include the city of

Zurich, the towns of Rapperswil and Winterthur, an enchanting cruise on Lake Zurich and the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe. Discover the multi-faceted Zurich region on this experience-packed tour. zuerich.com/grandtour | zuerich.com/trade

Old Town and Rose Gardens in RapperswilRapperswil, the Riviera on the upper half of Lake Zurich, maintains its promise of southern charm. The small and quaint alleys of the medieval old part of town invite visitors to a charming stroll or spot of window-shopping.

Vibrant City Life in ZurichZurich is a vibrant city, full of restaurants, shops and cafés run by its creative inhabitants. Whether in former factory halls, empty car parks, or under the arches of a viaduct, you’re never far from delicious food, urban gardens and original Zurich products.

Sechseläutenplatz in ZurichThe "Sechseläutenplatz" is one of the largest city squares in Switzerland – created with 16,000 square meters (172,200 square feet) of elegant quartzite. Trees, places to sit and water elements make it a very attractive and really cozy spot.

Rhine FallsAcross a width of 150 meters (492 feet) and a height of 23 meters (75.5 feet), 600 m³ (21,189 cubic feet) of water plunge over the falls in the summer.A panoramic path with elevator goes from Laufen Castle to the outlook platforms and enables an unobstructed view of this spectacle of nature.

Rapperswil-Hurden Wooden BridgeLake Zurich is situated on the route taken by the Jacob pilgrims who eversince the Middle age also visited Rapperswil on their way to Santiago de Compostela. A somewhat unsafe, tortuous wooden bridge with loosely laid planks helped them make their way across the lake.

Grossmünster Church in ZurichThe Grossmünster church is a landmark of Zurich. Legend has it that the church was built on the graves of the city's patron saints. According to legend, Charlemagne discovered the graves of Felix and Regula and had a church built as a monastery on the spot.

Kyburg Castle Near WinterthurPerched high up above the River Töss, eastern Switzerland's most important feudal castle is now home to a lively museum. Hear tales about the knights and castle maidens, the local governor and his wife, the servants and the subjects.

National Museum Zurich In the center of Zurich, opposite the main station, stands the National Museum Zurich. This castle-like building holds the country’s biggest collection of cultural and historical artifacts and shows a constantly-changing selection of fascinating special exhibitions.
