    Configuring Network ManagementACM

Short Description Perform the procedure to configure NMS ACM.

Prerequisite Log in to the device through HyperTerminal, Telnet or SNMP NMSmode.

Context Configuring NMS ACM aims to restrict external devices to visit9806H device.

In the real networking application, usually the device is configuredwith an in-band NMS IP address and connected to public networkor operation and maintenance network through uplink interface. All users in the network can visit the device. However, for thesake of safe operation of the device, only a few users are allowedto configure the device. Therefore, the function is realized on thedevice to control users access to device NMS module. It is namedas NMS ACM (Access Control List for Management).

ACM enable-switch can be configured on the device. If ACM func-tion is configured as enable, the unmatched IP packets in the ACMlist are discarded. For the source IPaddresses that are not in ACMlist, the device does not respond to the ARP request packets andICMP packets, which prevents the illegal device from obtaining theMAC address and IPaddress of the local device and launching at-tacks.

Steps 1. Configure ACM entry.2. Enable ACM function.

    Note:

During ACMconfiguration, make sure to configure the IPaddress of the NMS computer before enabling ACM func-tion. Otherwise, once function is enabled, it is impossibleto use Telnet or SNMP NMS terminal to manage the device.

ACM can be configured with 16 entries maximum.

    End of Steps

Result NMS ACM is configured successfully.

Example The following examples display how to configure ACM:

Permit all IP addresses in the 1010.10.0 network segment tovisit the device through Telnet or SNMP.9806(config)# manage-access-list 1 permit source-ip 10.10.10.10/249806(config)# manage-access-list 2 deny any9806(config)# manage-access-list enable

IP Fax Service ConfigurationThis topic includes the following:

    Overview

    Configuring IP FAX Service

    Overview

Introduction IP fax is similar to Internet telephony, but it is optimized for trans-mitting fax data. IP fax generally works by sending fax data overthe Internet to strategically placed fax servers. Once a fax arrivesat the server closest to the final destination, it is transferred ontonormal telephone lines and transmitted like a normal fax. Becausethe data is transmitted over the Internet for most of the journey, the total cost of transmission is much less than if it traveled overlong-distance telephone lines like conventional faxes.

    ServiceSpecifications

9806H supports the following fax modes:

    Full-control T.30

    Full-control T.38

    T.30 Transparent

    T.38 Transparent

It is recommended to use full-control mode.

VLAN ConfigurationThis topic includes the following:

    Overview

    Basic VLAN Configuration

    VLAN Stacking Configuration

    Overview

    ServiceDescription

VLAN is a technology to achieve virtual work group by dividingthe network into individual segments logically instead of physi-cally through local network device. The IEEE published the IEEE802.1q protocol standard draft to standardize VLAN implementa-tion in 1999.

    ServiceSpecification

    9806H supports maximum 4094 VLANs.

VLAN usage is listed in Table 24.

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION 51

  • ZXDSL 9806H Configuration Manual (CLI)

    TABLE 24 VLAN USAGE

    VLAN Usage Remarks

Basic VLAN Used to separate ports For Ethernet port and PON

port, it is used in NMS andcascade.

For xDSL access service, thereare two applications: PVLAN mode (default):

One VLAN can containmultiple xDSL serviceports and the serviceflows among the xDSLservice ports are sepa-rated. The service flowsbetween these serviceports and NMS ports areinter-connective. Theservice flows betweeneach VLAN is separa-ted too. One VLAN canbe connected with mul-tiple users, which re-duces the occupancy ofVLAN numbers.

Non-PVLAN mode: OneVLAN contains only onexDSL service port. Theservice flows betweenVLANs are separated. Asthere is a one-to-onemapping relation betweenVLAN and access user, ac-cess user can be differen-tiated according to VLAN.

VLAN Stacking Used to expand VLAN

VLAN packets with stackingproperty contain inner-layer/outerlayer VLAN labelsallocated by 9806H. Theupper-layer BAS device canauthenticate dual-VLAN accordingto the two layers of labels andincrease user numbers. In theupper-layer network of Layer-2working mode, the device canforward packets directly throughouter-layer VLAN+MAC to provideISP with all the service functions.

    Adding VLAN

Short Description Perform this procedure to add one or multiple VLANs. VLAN is usedto logically divide ports into different network segments. In thisway, communications between ports is under control.

Prerequisites The VLAN to be added does not exist.

    Context ZXDSL 9806H supports VLANs: 2 4049.

ZXDSL 9806H supports three VLAN encapsulation types: pp-poe, ipoe and all. The default encapsulation type is all.

pppoe: VLAN is only assigned to PPPoE access service.

ipoe: VLAN is only assigned to IPoE access service.

all: VLAN is assigned to all access services.

To add VLAN, perform the following steps:

Steps 1. Execute the add-vlan command to add a VLAN.

    2. (Optional) Execute the vlan vlanid name name command toconfigure VLAN name.

    3. (Optional) Execute the vlan vlanid encapsulation type com-mand to configure VLAN encapsulation type.

    4. Execute the show vlan command to show VLAN information.

    END OF STEPS

    Result VLAN is added successfully.

    Example Add a VLAN. VLAN ID is 2. VLAN name is VLAN2 (default). VLANencapsulation is pppoe.9806(config)# add-vlan 29806(config)# vlan 2 encapsulation pppoe9806(config)# show vlan 2VLANID : 2VLANName : VLAN2EncapType : PPPOE
