Dear sir,
Complaints about School CanteenWith reference to the title above, I would like to complain about the poor service of our school canteen.
2. First of all, I would like to voice out my displeasure(表达不满)
about the hygience condition of our school canteen. The dirty floor is an
4
eyesore to the students who dine in the canteen. Worse still(更糟糕的是),
the drains are clogged by the leftovers dumped into them. As a result, they
emit foul stench which disheartens(引起愤怒) the students while they are
having their meals. In addition, the food and drinks sold by the canteen lack
variety. The students are fed up eating the same food everyday.
3. For your information, there are reports that dead flies and
mosquitoes found in the food and drinks. This shows that the canteen
workers do not handle the food in a proper way. Besides, they never cover
their hair. Some of them even show lackadaisical(懒洋洋的) attitude when
serving the food. The facilities of the canteen still have room for
improvement(有进步的空间). For instance, there are insufficient table and
chairs to cater to the needs(迎合需求) of the students which are growing in
number.
3. Hereby, I would like to formulate a few suggestions(提出意见) to
ameliorate(改善)the condition of our school canteen. Firstly,in order to
ensure(确保) the hygience of the canteen to be maintained well, the floor
and the drains should be cleaned regularly. Besides, the school canteen can
change the food menu to cater to(迎合) the taste of the students. The food
and drinks should be covered to prevent the infestation(侵扰) of flies and
mosquitoes.
4. On the other hand, ther workers are advised to wear caps and
aprons while handling the food. More benches and tables should be added
to tackle(处理) the problem of insufficient place of eating.

Yours faithfully,
Richard Hew

In this day and age, the scenario(现象) of environmental pollution is
hiking(上升) at an alarming rate. In order to stop our environment from
deteriorating(恶化), proactive(积极主动)measures should be taken at
once(马上). Here are some tips to conserve(保护)ourmother earth(大自然).
First of all, do not litter indiscrimately(任意地)around the
neighbourhood/ residential area. Littering around is detrimentalto(有害
的)our living environment.Insteadof(取代) littering around, you are advised
to use rubbish bins that are provided.
Besides, the public must not carry out open burning. This is because
open burning may bring negative impact on(带来不良影响)our
environmentin the long run(长远地). To minimize(减少) the air pollution,
we can use public transport instead of(取代) travelling in our own vehicles.
As such, the emission(排放) of exhaust fumes(费烟) from vehicles can be
reduced tremendously(巨大地).Walking or cycling would be a good way to
protect our environment as well.
We can also recycle the disposed items such as old newspapers,
glasses and aluminium cans.Alternatively, we can reuse paper and plastic.
8
By doing this, we can tackle(处理) the problem of excessive rubbish thrown
every day.
You are also encouraged to use environmental-friendly products. They
would not jeopardize(危害)ourenvironment and they are conducive(有利
的) to the well-being of mankind. The public ought to keep rivers clean by not
dumping waste indiscriminately(任意地) into the river.Planting more trees
would help preserving(保护)our mother earth(大自然). Trees produce
oxygen which helps to
Our government should organize campaigns to raisetheawareness(提
高醒觉)of the public about the importance of keeping our environment clean.
For example, promoting(提倡)3Rs campaign among the public. On the other
hand(另一方面),the school can give talk on the importance of conserving
environment.
In conclusion, each and everyone plays a vital role(扮演重要的角色) in
keeping our environment clean and free of pollution.

Model question 7: safety
As the President of The Road Safety Club, you have been asked by your teacher to give a speech to all students in your school on how motorists cause accidents and suggest some ways to reduce these accidents.Use the notes below to guide you.
Causes
Turning without signalling Switching lanes, traffic jams - highways Breaking traffic rules after midnight Weaving in and out of traffic Beating traffic lights Underaged motorists Speeding in housing estates
Ways to reduce accidents
Vehicle - in good condition Traffic police - peak hours, after midnight More speed traps Impose heavier fines Road safety campaign - raise awareness
In your speech, remember to:- provide a title- use all the information above
Model Answer 7:
A very good morning to the principal, teachers and fellow students. As
the President of the Road Safety Club, I feel privileged(享有特权的)
standing here before you to give u a speech on “Road Safety”.
For your information, accidents which involve motorists are increasing
in this day and age(现今). The major cause of these accidents is some of
the motorists turn without signalling. The motorists may be knocked down by
14
other vehicles when they switch lanes during traffic jams on the highway.
Some motorists even break the rules after midnight.
Weaving in and out of traffic by motorists may cause accident too.
Some accidents happen due to reckless driving of motorists. They beat the
traffic lights.According to the survey, most of the motorcycle-related
accidents involve underaged motorists. This is because youngsters tend to
be impulsive(冲动的) and reckless(鲁莽的) when they drive their
motorcycles on the road.
Accidents may happen due to speeding in housing estates. There are a
lot of turns and junctions in housing estates which are prone to(倾向于)
accidents. The motorists should ensure that their vehicles are in good
condition. It is good to carry out maintenance once a month to ensure their
motorcycle in good condition.
It is suggested that the traffic police to set up road blocks during peak
hours, especially after midnight. In this way, the police can detect the
motorcyclists who are drunken or not having driving license. The relevant
authorities ought to set more speed traps in highly-risked places.
The government need to impose heavier fines(施加罚款) to those
who drive recklessly/ flaunt the law.The government should organise road
safety campaign to raise awareness among the road users.
I would end my speech here. I hope that you are benefited from my
speech. Thank you.

The Best Group LeaderBy Michael Hew
In the leadership camp organised by our school, Jason Chen was
selected as the best group leader. He is currently 17 years old and he has two
siblings, including an elder brother and a younger sister. He comes from a
modest family(小康之家). His father works as a businessman while her mother
is a housewife. He is now studying at SMK Seri Super.
Jason Chen is chosen as the best group leader because he
exhibited(展示) good manner in the camp. He is regarded(被认为) as a
responsible person as he abided by(服从)all the rules in the camp. Other than
that, he is caring towards others too. He attended to(关注)any problem faced
by his group members. For example, when a member was injured in the camp,
he brought her for medical attention promptly(迅速地).
Moreover, he earned the title “the best speaker for camp debate”. His
points of view are substantial(充实的) and convincing(有说服性的). He often
hits the nail on the head(一阵见血) in his speech. As a quick-witted(机智

The Lack of Interest in Sports Among the Students of SMK Seri Super
Recently, I have conducted a survey to find out the reasons why the
students in our school lose their interest in sports. Here are the findings of
my survey. First of all, the students show lackadaisical attitude towards
sports(表现出懒洋洋的态度). They assume/regard(认为)sport as a hot,
dirty and sweaty activity. They also cited that they are lack of time(提出他
们缺乏时间). They have no ample time(没有充足的时间) to engage in(参
加) sports because they are busy doing the homeworkassigned(分配)
bytheir teachers.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that(无可否认) the parents place
more emphasis on the academic performance(强调学业) of their
children. Nowadays, it is a common scenario that the parents send their
children to tuition classes and seminars(父母把孩子送去补习班是个正常
的现象)to boost/strengthen/intensify/reinforce/sharpen up(加强)their
study skill.
In addition, the condition of sport’s facilities should be taken into
account as one of the factors which leads to this scenario(现象).Currently,
there is insufficient sports equipment to cater to (运动器材不足够以迎合
学生需求)theneeds of our students.Worse still(更糟糕的是), the poor
19
condition of the field and courts draws the anger(引起愤怒) of the students
who want to carry out activities.
I would like to formulate a couple of suggestions(提出意见) to
tackle(处理) the lack of interest in sports among the students. The school
should(应该) stress the importance of sports to the students. The school
can also(也可以) has a dialogue with parents about this matter to root
out/eradicate(根除)the problem once and for all(一次性的).In addition, the
school is suggested to(被建议)improve the sports facilities for the students.
Employing qualified trainers would be another way to ameliorate(改善)
this problem. In this way, the students will receive proper training in
sports. The school may organize more competitions to trigger/arouse the
interest(引起兴趣) of students towards sports. If the school offers attractive
prizes for the sport’s achiever, it will act as an incentive(奖励) for the
students who take part in sports.
