Matthew11:28-29(TheMessage)
We are surrounded by the presence of God, though if we are honestmost of us go throughour day unaware of Him at best, and feeling abandoned by Him at worst. C. S. Lewis said,
We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade, the presence of God. The world is crowdedwith Him. He walks everywhere incognito. Yet even in our redeemed state, we are often adistracted people. The busyness and chaos of life rob us of the comfort and power of
knowing He is near.
What if there was a way to quiet our hearts and hear His voice? What would happen in and
through us if we became a people that lived so that our focus and concern in every situationand relationship was God Only? Over the next 100 Days it is our hope and desire tobecome a people of reflective movement, seeking to live continually aware of His
presence and attentive to His invitation to join Him in His activity in the world around us. Apeople that live with a daily rhythm that empowers us to connect to the divine amidst the
everyday. A rhythm that counters the chaos and disorder in our lives and creates spacefor us to become more aware of the nearness of God. In discussing a particular type ofrhythm called a rule of life, Adele Calhoun says
A rule for life is a simple statement of the regular rhythms we choose in order to
present our bodies to God as our spiritual act of worship (Romans12:1). Eachrule, or rhythm, is a way we partner with God for the transformation only he canbring. Rules keep our lives from devolving into unintended chaos. They arent a
burdensome list of dos and donts, enumerating everything you might do in a day.
Lifegiving rules are a brief and realistic scaffold of disciplines that support yourhearts desire to grow in loving God and others.
As we become accustomed to the rhythm it fades into the background and we are free toenjoy His presence, hear His voice, and know His heart in any situation and circumstance.
Over the next 100 days we will develop a rhythm of worship. That rhythm is:
Who He is Who I was What Hes done Who I am Who He is in me
This week we will pause each day on one movement in this rhythm. As we do, pray for Godto place a passion in your heart for Him and Him only.

WhoHeis When was the last time your heart was filled with awe and wonder at themajesty of God, astonished, overwhelmed by His greatness and power, by His love
displayed mercy and grace? When have you been so attuned to Him that your heartoverflowed with worship, and your mouth boldly proclaimed His goodness?
Imagine yourself within the jubilant celebration of Israelites after escaping the Egyptians
when the Red Sea engulfed the advancing army:
IwillsingtotheLord,forheishighlyexalted. Thehorseanditsriderhehashurledinto
thesea. TheLordismystrengthandmysong;hehasbecomemysalvation. HeismyGod,

OLord?Whoislikeyoumajesticinholiness,awesomeinglory,workingwondersIn

Exodus15:1-2,11,13
Now imagine yourself in their company three days later at Marah, when thirsty and unable
to drink the bitter water before them; you can hear grumbling in the whole community.Listen to their complaints when they could not find food only days after observing the
might and power of God: youhavebroughtusoutintothisdeserttostarvethisentire
assemblytodeath(Exodus16:3).
Our human condition renders us no different than the Israelites; we are quick to forget Hisacts of grace in our lives. Our hearts become calloused, our attempts to worship Himbecome feeble, and our minds become distracted by hollowanddeceptivephilosophy,
whichdependsonhumantraditionandthebasicprinciplesofthisworldratherthanon
Christ(Colossians2:8). The promised land the Israelites would enter was inhabited
with idols and philosophies that would lead astray those not focused on the one, true God.The culture we live in is no different. Before they entered in, God issued this call:
Hear,OIsrael: TheLordourGod,theLordisone. LovetheLordyourGodwithall
yourheartandwithallyoursoulandwithallyourstrength.Deuteronomy6:4
And so our daily rhythm begins where it should, with Him. As we enter this season ofworship, let us turn our hearts to Him in worship purely because He alone is worthy.

The second movement in our rhythm brings us to look at ourselves.
WhoIWas Imagine yourself standing in the public square, when Jesus points hisdisciples towards the publican standing in the shadows unable to lift his eyes towardsheaven. You hear this mans plea: God, have mercy on me a sinner. You also see theboldness of the Pharisee whose eyes are heavenward, proclaiming his own goodness in the
center of the bustling crowd around him. Imagine yourself attracted to the idealproclaimed by the proud man, but stirred by the plea of the man in the shadows; you
recognize your own sinfulness and are engulfed with guilt and shame. You hold yourbreath as Jesus begins to speak about the man in the shadows certain His words will alsocontain judgment against you. Your thoughts are flooded with accusations reminding you
of how far you have fallen short of righteousness. Ears strained, you hear tender mercy inJesus voice: That man goes up to his house declared righteous. In that instant, does His
kindness draw you into repentance (Romans2:4)? Or, do you imagine yourself retreatingto a distance from Him where the burden of guilt and shame is not so intense? Do yourcondemning thoughts convince you to hide, from God and others, believing you would
certainly be rejected if the depth of sins depravity was exposed?
When our minds are notfixed on Jesus, on God only, we are vulnerable to believing liesabout ourselves and others that stir fear, shame, guilt, and anger. We may be convinced
that we are still bound to the sinful nature (Romans7:5) and cannot escape the continualdepravity spanned by this force with us. We try, we fail. We try harder, we fail miserably.Maybe we lament like the Apostle Paul did when recognizing himself as a prisoner of sin:
OhwretchedmanIam!Whowilldelivermefromthisbodyofdeath? (Romans7:24).
If we forget Who we were, we can minimize the magnitude and glory of His grace, and evenfall into a false pride about our need for to be saved. However, if we do not remember who
we are in Christ, His light cannot shine as brightly through us; we limit His power in us tobe used as instruments of righteousness.

Next we reflect on the reality of Gods gracious movement in our lives.
Do you sometimes find yourself in the shadows, guarded, not enjoying lavish intimacy
with God and His people? Fearful, certain your faults or imperfection, if exposed, wouldestrange you from the fellowship you secretly desire? In this, our human minds so easily
fix on our temporal, earthly existence that our gaze upon Jesus, God alone, becomes dim.
Or, do you celebrate the freedom you have inherited through the sacrifice and resurrectionof Jesus Christ to live completely unguarded in the light of His presence? Are you
convinced you can boldly enter His presence with confidence, in the middle of beingtempted by sin, and know His scepter of mercy will be extended to you in your time of
need? Have you ever worshiped Him this way?

Do you have fear of complete exposure of yourself to God? Or, are you astonished by themercy of your Savior who would sacrifice Himself as a substitute for you, so your sin would
not condemn you? Instead of fear, do you rejoice that you are no longer bound as a slave tosin but set free to enjoy His righteousness now given you as gift of grace?

Trust in Gods demonstration of grace and mercy through Jesus death and resurrectionallows us freedom to be fully exposed and transformed by His life within us, and sets us
free to collectively enjoy unguarded fellowship with one another.

Now our rhythm brings us to the glorious truth of who we are in light of the cross.
WhoamI? The question of ones identity can generate insecurity or confidence, depending on how it is answered. The answer to this can set us free to enjoy intimacy withGod and others, or it could reinforce guardedness and isolation from fellowship. We can be
like the person who:
hasforgottenthathehasbeencleansedfromhispastsins(2Peter1:9)
forgets he is no longer bound in slavery to sin (Romans6:6), or,
defines himself by the sinfulnaturethat desires what is contrary to the Spirit(Galatians5:16-18)?
Imagine yourself, someone set free from being enslaved to the sin nature, now infused withthe righteousness of Christ, defining yourself in this manner: I am a depraved person.
This belief ultimately could focus your attention onto yourself, away from Jesus, away fromGod only.
What comes to you mind aboutwhoyouarenow, since receiving redemption from sin anddeath through the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus? Consider2Corinthians5:17-19: Therefore, ifanyoneisinChrist, heisanewcreation;theoldhas
gone,thenewhascome!AllthisisfromGod,whoreconciledustohimselfthroughChristand
gaveustheministryofreconciliation:thatGodwasreconcilingtheworldtohimselfinChrist,
notcountingmenssinsagainstthem.
You are no longer defined by depravity; the old has passed away. You are set free torejoice in your new identity in Christ. You are no longer empty. You are now a vessel thatJesus Himself inhabits by His Spirit. The old you is dead:
IhavebeencrucifiedwithChristandInolongerlive,butChristlivesinme. ThelifeIlive

WhoHeIsInMeThe answer to this question may change your entire perspective of Godand His intent to accomplish great and mighty works through you. What King David didnot know was the mystery ofChristinyou,thehopeofglory(Colossians1:27) revealed to
the Church through the Apostle Paul. Contemplate this: All
the
treasures
of
wisdom
and
knowledgeare hidden in Christ (Colossians2:3); therefore, all that is in Christ is now inyou, because He is in you. As we begin this 100day journey, we step into the mystery of
discovering who He is in me, in you, in us as a community. As we focus on God only, onJesus, we may begin to discover His power at work in us, to accomplish goodworks, which
