Long-term and short term skills
� Look at tools with a strategic long-term analysis ± impact, use, whereit belongs in a communication
plan. Support staff and resourcesnecessary.
� Look at the use short-term ± in acrisis, for a campaign or event thatis maybe one-day or so.

Group Projects
� Group presentation ± you pick a topicrelated to this course. It must includethe use of various types of social
media tools.� If you have iPads, you may use them
to illustrate ideas for its use in acommunication plan.
� It must include creation of content,
distribution, target audiences, tactics,goals and evaluation. Think podcasts,videos, multimedia elements on Webpages, interactivity, etc.

Individual Topic
� Write a paper ± 3-5 pages, double spaced,extra page for references listed in APA style.Submit as directed by instructor. No e-mailedpapers ± any e-mails will result in a zero for
the assignment. Get topic approved byinstructor.
� Topics must be specific . For example, searchengines is too broad. Search engine use inhiring employees to work at a nursing home isbetter.
� Twitter is too broad. Twitter use to locateinformation and sources for a breaking newsevent is better.
� Flickr is too broad. Using Flickr to advance arestaurant business is better.

Wikis
� Add information to the class wiki.
� Post something that relates to socialmedia and your particular field or interestarea in that field. Current research and/oremerging new ideas are important.
� The other is to edit or add to anotherperson¶s wiki.
� No length requirement, but must be richin content and ideas (solid, credibleinformation), exhibit good writing skillsand give us something to think about.
� Use header, content, bullet points, etc.

Mock Interviews
� I encourage every student to do amock interview, even if you havedone one previously. It motivates
you to update your employmentmaterials and provides newinsights. You change each year.
� ¼ grade credit to students whobring a career services slip from
Spring 2010 semester.� ½ grade credit for new interviews.
