The Whole Child has steadily expanded its impact in the community since its inception. In the last decade, we added parenting, housing, and nutrition services to complement our rich mental health practice. As part of our evolution, we recognize the need to represent the full range of our offering in our messaging. This annual report debuts our updated vision and mission statements, and reflects an overall effort to better measure our contribution to a more equitable world. We are also introducing a new modern look, which is carried throughout all our collateral materials, including our new website.
We also recognize the need to strengthen our operational core to further our impact and fuel future growth. This year we appointed our new CEO and COO and created a dedicated communications and community outreach department.
We are working hard to Achieve Wholeness.
It is a privilege to lead this amazing team; to all our team members, thank you for your hard work and relentless passion, to our funders and partners, thank you for your support of our organization and your commitment to the families and children we serve!

Ximena’s Journey
A year went by after the loss of three family members and lingering experiences became a dark umbrella over a very broken self. I felt like I didn’t want to exist. I called the suicide hotline and was referred to The Whole Child.
I remember how scared I was to be vulnerable, to let someone know how I felt inside wondering if I was fixable. I came twice a week and my The Whole Child therapist, Karla, became someone I confided in. She opened my heart, my mind and my soul and served as the life vest I needed to stay afloat in life..
Today I’m a college graduate and my life is in a healthy state. I felt the need to let The Whole Child know that I am alive, I am healthy, and I am so happy because of you. Thank you!
–Ximena (22 years),Mental Health Client
Alex’s Success
My grandson started to show aggres-sion towards other kids at school and his previous therapist felt he needed more support. He was dealing with a lot of anger that came out in major out-bursts and extremely impulsive behavior that had gotten progressively worse. He started experiencing psychosis and needed medication management.
Alex started in The Whole Child Intensive Services (FSP) program and it has been great. Having someone he felt com-fortable sharing with has made a huge difference. I have seen his anger issues and obsession with violence decrease. His outbursts are less frequent and less violent. There are no more voices. He has just grown up so much!
Actively participating in his treatment plan has helped me understand what was driving his extreme reactions. Before coming to The Whole Child, I had no idea how to help him. The FSP team has been the best support that I have had in this process.

When children are in crisis and traditional counseling isn’t working, the entire family needs intensive, imm-ediate help with a multi-disciplinary approach. The Whole Child steps in to provide in-home, intense treatment services with clinical teams and resources on a 24-hour response basis.
Examples of challenges addressed by the program include children and teens with co-exiting issues such as abuse and trauma, homelessness, substance abuse, as well as involvement of the judicial and/or child welfare systems.

SPOTLIGHT ON IMAGINE WHITTIER
Sophie’s Safe Place
My four kids and I were faced with homelessness, periodically sleeping in motels or at our church, after I left home due to domestic violence. They would ask if they would ever have a home again. I blamed myself. I sought help from so many different organiza-tions but none helped until I found The Whole Child.
We have now moved into our apartment. I have learned how to budget to ensure that rent is paid on time. I wanted to make sure my kids received services for their Autism, which was too hard to do when we were going from hotel to hotel. I also had a goal to get my driver’s li-cense and just recently passed the test!
Now I see my children smile every day. I imagine my future to be full of love and happiness, overall stability that my kids and I have been missing. I see my chil-dren growing up healthy and becoming successful individuals. The Whole Child has completely changed the quality of life for my family.

Reuniting Nora’s Family
In 2013, I got arrested and went to prison for three years and lost custody of my kids immediately. When I first got out of prison I was being turned down constantly plus I didn’t make enough money to get my own place. I thought eventually I was going to lose my son for good. I was afraid that my boy would never forgive me for what my errors have been and that eventually he would graduate and I would never hear from him.
I first came to The Whole Child in November and by December 23rd I got my place. The day they helped me pay the rent I moved in. My son came back to live with me on January 1st.
I come home and feel this sense of security that I had lost. I feel human again. There were times when I didn’t feel that. Without The Whole Child I would never be able to be where I am today.
