Executive Director
Dear Friends of Shelter,
The 2017-2018 fiscal year was a bittersweet year for the Shelter family, as we said goodbye to our executive director, Patricia Beck, who faithfully led us in service for over four decades. Patricia’s legacy of commitment to the youth and families in our community lives on in everything we do, and we wish her all the best in her well-earned retirement.
As Shelter’s new executive director, I’m humbled to join this incredible team of caregivers and public servants. During the 2017-2018 year alone, Shelter served over 700 kids and parents, screened more than 1,500 families for risk factors for child abuse, and put in more than 4,000 service hours for our community.
The road ahead of us is not without its challenges. We’re still feeling the aftershocks of the state budget impasse that held our funding in limbo, and our 2017-2018 fundraising fell short of our goal, putting us well over our budget as we closed out the fiscal year.
But, we have an exceptional team in place, and we’re working together to turn the tide. We’re reallocating funds for maximum community impact, and we’re refining and refocusing some of our programs to better anticipate the needs of our community. We have a clear vision for the future and a solid strategic plan for getting there.
Thank you all for your ongoing support and for warmly welcoming me into the Shelter family. I look forward to serving with you as we enter this exciting new chapter of Shelter’s story.
In service,
Carina H. Santa Maria, MSW, LCSWExecutive Director
