Inthefollowingdiagram,randomlypolarisedelectromagnetic(EM)wavesarepassedthroughapolariser,whichonlyletsthroughacertaincomponent,producingplane-polarisedlight.Thetransmittedplanepolarisedwavehasalowerintensitythantherandomlyorientatedwave.
