Incorporating daylight into senior environments can improve circadian rhythms. A warmer color temperature of 3,500 K is recommended due to this population’s tendency to be cold.

Direct sunlight can create a harmful glare for those with cataracts and dementia. Filter direct sunlight to reduce glare. 5






Navigation can be difficult for seniors. Install way-finding lights to reinforce correct pathways and doors. 4










Illuminate handrails, bedrails and grab bars to make them dual-purpose and easy to identify in the dark. 3










Nighttime illumination is important for seniors. Red or amber LEDs provide illumination without disturbing the circadian rhythm.
