There was a rich man who dressed in purple
garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each
day. And lying at his door was a poor man named
Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have
eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich
man's table.
O God, who manifest your almighty power above all
by pardoning and showing mercy, bestow, we pray,
your grace abundantly upon us and make those
hastening to attain your promises heirs to the
treasures of heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
