I wonder if you have ever taken forgranted someone or something? Ihave and I felt the consequencestoo late. I think that sometimes wedon’t realise that we are doing it. Iasked myself a question as a resultof this line of thinking the otherday, “What would life be like ifJeanette and the kids were nolonger part of my existence? Theanswer is “Nasty and Lonely” Solets ask this question, “What wouldyour life be like without God?

LEARNING ABOUT PRAYER
By Howard Hendricks – Stories
For the Heart.
He came to know the Lord ona Thursday evening, & on Sundayhe showed up at church. Thepastor announced that we weregoing to have an evening service& of course this guy showed upagain. That’s when he learnedthat our church had a Bible studyand prayer meeting onWednesday night, so he came thatevening as well. I sat next to him at the prayermeeting & just before wecommenced, he turned to me &asked, “Do you think they’d mind
quite young, we had a scholarvisiting our home. After our meal,we were ready for our customarytime of family worship, and weinvited the man to join us. When itcame time to pray, the kids, in typicalchildlike fashion, thanked Jesus forthe tricycle & the sandbox & thefence & so on. Our guest couldscarcely wait to take me aside. “Professor Hendricks,” he began, very much the lecturer that he was.“You don’t mean to tell me thatyou’re a professor in a theologicalseminary, & yet you teach yourchildren to pray for things like that?” “I certainly do,” I replied. “Doyou ever pray about your Ford?” Iknew that he did. He had to: he wasriding mostly on faith & frayedfabric! “O course,” he replied, “butthat’s different.” “Oh, really?” I countered. “Whatmakes you think your Ford is moreimportant to God than my boy’stricycle?” Then I pressed him
if I prayed?” “Of course not,” Ireassured him. “That’s what we’re herefor.” “Yeah, I know,” he said, “but I’vegot a problem. I can’t pray the way youpeople do.” I told him, “That’s noproblem, friend. You should thankGod for that!” Well, we started praying, & I couldtell he was too nervous to take part. Finally, I put my hand on his thigh toencourage him. I’ll never forget hisprayer: “Lord, this is Jim,” he began.I’m the one who met you last Thursdaynight. I’m sorry, Lord, because I can’tsay it the way the rest of these peopledo, but I want to tell you the best Iknow how. I love you, Lord. I reallydo. Thanks a lot. I’ll see you later.” I tell you, that prayer ignited ourprayer meeting! Some of us had beendoing a good job of talking abouttheology in prayer – you know, exploring the universe of doctrine, scraping the Milky Way with our bigwords. But this guy prayed – earnestly! My children have taught me manythings about theology. When they were
further. “You’re on the road a lot.Do you ever pray for protection?” “Brother Hendricks, I never goanywhere but that I pray for theLord’s journeying mercies.” “Well, safety is essentially whatmy boy is thanking Jesus for when hethanks him for the fence. That fencekeeps out those great big dogs on theother side!”
