and learns about the desert.• They do not interrupt each other, and are polite
when speaking.
THE BEACH
Our next stop is the beach region of Mortimer’s World.
• Mortimer talks about the beach, explaining a few
features.• His friend listens, asks appropriate questions, and
learns about the beach.• They do not interrupt each other, and are polite
when speaking.
THE LAKE

• Mortimer talks about lakes, explaining a few
features.• His friend listens, asks appropriate questions, and
learns about the beach.• They do not interrupt each other, and are polite

SAYING GOODBYE
Our final stop is the Visitors Center on Mortimer’s World.
• The flamingo thanks Mortimer for his time.• Mortimer responds appropriately and asks her to
come again.• Flamingo and Mortimer say goodbye and Flamingo
leaves.
WHAT WE KNOW . . .
Students want to be engaged
Students love to play games on the computer
Students want graphics, sounds, and movement
Teachers want their students to be engaged
Teachers want their students to learn
Teachers want to “work smarter, not harder”
SO WHY NOT . . .
Engage students with the use of ALICE 2.2; a quick and fairly easy way to program a presentation.
Allow students to enjoy having content presented in a variety of ways by a variety of characters.
Give the students the chance to love the graphics, sounds, and movement.
Allow students to be engaged.
Encourage the students to take ownership of and responsibility for their learning process.
“Teach smarter, not harder.”
Give ALICE 2.2 a try.
