Britepaths'HolidayProgramseekscommunitysupporttohelpindividualsandfamiliesinneedintheFairfaxCountyareawithfoodfortheDecemberholidaysandgiftsfortheirchildren.Wehave3,000householdsonourholidayassistancelistthisfall.ThisProgramismadepossiblebythesupportofourlocalnon-profitpartnersandthehundredsoffamilies,companies,faithcommunitiesandgroupsofallkindswhojoinuseachyeartomaketheholidaysbrighterforourneighborswhomightotherwisenothavefoodorgiftsfortheirchildrenwhilemanyofusenjoysomuchbounty.

FortheNovembermeeting,wewerefortunatetohaveoneoftheD.A.C.A.“Dreamers,”GiancarlaRojas,tellusherpersonalstoryandofherworkwithotherDreamersasaD.A.C.A.activist.ShewasaccompaniedandintroducedbyEdgarAranda-Yanoc,animmigranthimself,whoisnowtheChairoftheVirginiaCoalitionofLatinoOrganizations,withaspecificconcernfortheLegalAidJusticeCenter’sImmigrantAdvocacyProgram.Giancarla’sstoryisoneofpersistence,meetingandovercomingthemanyobstaclespresented


toyoungpeoplewhofindthemselveswithmajorbarrierstotheirambitionsduetotheirlackofdocumentation,yetwhohavespenttheirschoolyearshereandknowlittleofthecountriesfromwhichtheirparentscame.TheyhavetakenadvantageofthiscourseofferedbyPresidentObama,yetknowthatthisopportunitycanbetakenfromtheminthenewadministration.Theseyoungpeople,withthesupportofpeoplelikeEdgarAranda-Yanoc,aretryingtoplanacourseofactionthatwilltakethisuncertaintyfromthem.Wewishthemwellandwillkeeptheminmindasweplanpost-booksaleprojects.
