FIBERGLASS: THE SUSTAINABLE CORROSION-RESISTANT SOLUTION
When choosing a tank for an aboveground installation, a key decision is tank material. The primary advantage fiberglass has over other tank materials is that it is a durable, inherently corrosion-resistant composite. Whether a tank is storing water, wastewater, neutralizing chemicals or other corrosive liquids, a fiberglass aboveground tank needs no added internal coating to protect against corrosion.
Choosing a fiberglass tank today avoids the expense and trouble of replacing and repairing tanks made of steel or polyethylene. It’s the right choice for today, and for the future.
RESINS AND COATINGS FOR ULTIMATE PROTECTION
We select interior resins based on a project’s storage requirements. Insulation and gel coating are available to provide even greater protection to our one-piece watertight tanks. The gel coating provides UV protection and a uniform color to the tank’s outer surface. Xerxes by Shawcor tanks are available in light-reflecting colors or in colors specified by customers to fit the project’s environment. For applications with highly corrosive environments, Nexus® and/or chemical veils can be added.
LOOK TO THE INDUSTRY EXPERTS
We are recognized as an industry pioneer in the design and manufacture of fiberglass tanks. For long-term secure installations it makes sense to turn to the company backed by decades of industry innovation.

4’ – 15.5’ DIAMETERSSINGLE-WALL AND DOUBLE-WALL MODELS
Vertical tanks allow for the greatest capacity in the smallest footprint. They are often the most cost-effective choice on the basis of cost-per-gallon storage. Vertical aboveground tanks don’t require support saddles, and the support pad is smaller and less expensive than the pad for a horizontal tank of the same capacity.
4’ – 15.5’ DIAMETERSSINGLE-WALL AND DOUBLE-WALL MODELS
When tank installations are limited by ceiling height or zoning height requirements, a horizontal tank can be the best choice. Even without such limitations, some project designers prefer a low horizontal tank. In exterior installations, these tanks are typically set on a concrete pad or a well-compacted gravel base.

Our tanks are manufactured for each customer’s specific design requirements. The following factors are considered for each tank, as well as any other specifications required by a project.
TANK STRUCTURAL DESIGN
Tanks can be designed for fluid specific gravities, plus design pressures of full vacuum to +15 psig. All atmospheric tanks are required to have proper venting to meet the ASME RTP-1 standard and API 12P specifications.
HYDROSTATIC AND OPERATING PRESSURES
When anchored, our tanks are designed to withstand wind velocities as specified by ASCE 7 and local building codes. Tanks can be designed for requirements up to the 200 mph wind velocities as required in certain locations, such as South Florida, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
WIND LOAD
Our tanks are designed for all seismic design categories A thru F as required by ASCE 7, the California Building Code and other applicable local building codes. All tanks with anchor lugs are designed for seismic activities.
SEISMIC CONDITIONS
In addition to customer requirements and specifications, our aboveground tanks can be designed and manufactured to meet many local codes as well as the following industry standards and specifications:
→ ASME RTP-1→ API 12P→ ASTM D3299→ ASTM D4097
→ ASCE 7→ ANSI/AWWA D120→ NSF/ANSI/CAN 61

If steel tanks with coatings had been used, and if there had been any kind of flaw in the coating, there would have been vicious rusting and major problems in the future. With fiberglass tanks that’s a non-issue.
