● Song dynasty rule from 960-1279 It is divided by the north and South Song in Eastern China
● The land was very fertile because it was by 2 rivers called Chang Jiang River and Huang He River
Society Tang Dynasty● Wu Zetian 624-704 took
control of the government. China’s only female ruler, Empress Wu
● The Tangs first emperor Gaozu created the Tang legal Code in 624
Society- Song Dynasty● The roles of the women where to be a
servant to the husband and produce sons so the care down the family name
● The male's role is to be in charge of the women
● The Song Dynasty primarily had beliefs rooted mainly in Buddhism. Soon there came a revival of Confucianism, called Neo-Confucianism
Advances/Achievements Tang Dynasty
● Tang dynasty inventions gunpowder, air conditioning, gas cylinders, and developments in medicine
Advances/Achievements Song Dynasty● They invented papermaking,
gunpowder, compass, alcohol, mechanical clock, tea production, silk, acupuncture, iron smelting, rocket, bronze, etc.
● What they lacked in politics and military, they made up for a booming economy, arts, and sciences
● Theatre, poetry, and music became popular
End/ DeclineTang Dynasty● Around 820 people began to rebel
against the Tang Dynasty which significantly weakened the dynasty
Song Dynasty● Song Dynasty lacked in military power
and political unity● They struggled with many territorial
threats until they were invaded by the Mongols
