Thank You
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK We have had a great start to term two with one week down already! The amazing weather that we are enjoying continues to energise us all. Automated SMS for unexplained absence program: Thank you for your support and patience. Overall, the first week of the new automated system to notify parents if their child is absent and without explanation has been positive. We have had a couple of incorrect notifications and will continue to refine our processes to ensure that these occurrences are rare. Having all children at school on time is crucial to supporting accurate attendance data, so I thank you in anticipation of your support in having children at school in class ready to be marked off the roll by 8.50am. Please remember that absence notifications need to be made through the school portal https://sentral.kilmoreps.vic.edu.au/portal2/#!/login or to the office on 57821268. Not directly to teachers. Emails are not suitable on the day of the absence as they may be read after the SMS messages have been sent. The Oval Upgrade:
You will all be aware that the oval upgrade has commenced. It is looking fantastic. We are hoping to have it seeded this week. The downside of the upgrade means that this area is out of bounds for the term, but the long-term facility improvement for the school far outweighs this.
Hard rubbish removal fairies - THANK YOU!: On Friday of last week we sent out a Facebook message to the community asking for help to load some hard rubbish into the skips we hired. As per usual, the community responded immediately and when I arrived at school today the rubbish bins have been loaded and ready to go! Thank you to whomever responded so quickly to our call for help. I love the support that this community always shows our school.
A special thank you to all of our service men and women past and present for their contribution to our country and the wonderful lifestyle we all enjoy. Have a great week everyone.

Hello everyone! It’s been a week full of reading, cricket, softball, rounders, playdough, popcorn, plants, cuddles, gloves, tennis balls and part of a random biscuit for this three year old. I went to high school when I visited
Assumption College to cheer on our
interschool sports teams and was so
proud of the enthusiasm and
sportsmanship displayed by
everyone. The only ball tampering
was done by me when I modified
my tennis ball by adding a giant
hole. Too soon to mention ball
tampering? If so, I apawlogise.
Overheard this week… “Imagine if Asha had rainbow fur. He’d be so colourful!” “I didn’t know you could catch!” “Ummm, Asha, can I please have the glove back now?” “Can I please hold your lead?” “You were two and now you’re three. Next you will be four!” “Did your legs grow?”
On Friday afternoon, 3/4P
helped Tracey Crane fill
some very big pots with
very colourful plants. If you
walk past the Grade 3/4, 5H
& 5P classrooms, you will
see them. Bendigo Bank
donated some money to the
Edible Garden Group and….
….they bought us some plants and pots. I helped by supawvising the planting
process, sniffing all the soil and
picking up a dropped glove. Everyone
was wearing gloves, so I thought I
would too. It didn’t really ‘fit like a
glove’. Could have something to do
with the fact I have little paws and not
hands. It was a pawsome way to
spend a Friday afternoon and I can’t
wait to see the plants grow and grow
and grow.

This week’s edition of Numeracy News is proudly brought to you by our students…
I’ve enjoyed learning
about fractions because
I didn’t know how to
convert improper
fractions to mixed
numbers and now I do!
I’ve enjoyed learning
about times tables
because they are good
to learn for when you
are older. My favour-
ites are the 6s.
I’ve enjoyed learning
about the ‘Friends of
10’ strategy. Say I got
7, I have to work out
what I need to make
10. It’s 3. 7 + 3 = 10
I’ve enjoyed learning
about counting. I can
count to 100!
I’ve enjoyed rounding
because you can make
student friendly numbers
to help add them together.
I like partitioning because it
was easier to split numbers
into parts when you add
them.
This week’s family talking point… We use a range of mathematical strategies to solve problems and students learn to use the most effective strategy for different types of problems. How would you solve the following problems? Which strategy would you use? Why? Does everyone in your family agree on the most effective strategy to use? Or, do people have a favourite way to solve the problem? 4 + 2 = 15 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 123.4 + 17.6 = 3 + 15 = 198 + 45 = 174 + 31 =

Respectful Relationships
On Thursday 3rd May staff will participate in professional learning on Respectful Relationships. The Respectful Relationships initiative is designed to promote meaningful
generational change through practices and policies relating to gender, respect and equality both as a school and as a workplace.
Respectful Relationships is a wide ranging initiative to help young Victorians deal with a range of challenges they may face and covers topics including being respectful, resilient and engaged at school and confident in themselves. Respectful Relationships promotes equality and helps children learn how to build healthy relationships. The initiative prepares them to face challenges by developing problem-solving skills and building empathy, resilience and confidence. Gender based violence has a devastating impact on the community and affects people from all walks of life. The Royal Commission into Family Violence recommended Respectful Relationships be introduced to all schools to change attitudes and prevent the prevalence of gender based violence in future generations. In 2016 Respectful Relationships became a core component of the Victorian Curriculum and is being taught in all government and Catholic schools and many independent schools. There are 8 core areas for the teaching of Social and Emotional learning and Respectful Relationships. These include:
1.Emotional literacy
2.Personal strengths
3.Positive coping
4.Problem solving
5.Stress management
6.Help seeking
7.Gender and identity Positive gender relations
Respectful Relationships is underpinned by evidence that shows schools can play a key role in preventing gender based violence by helping students develop an understanding of healthy relationships and respect.

Being on Time Matters
At Kilmore Primary School we are committed to providing your child with an excellent education. The building blocks of a great education begin with all students coming to school each and every day. Regular school attendance is vital and missing school days and being late to school can have a big impact on a child’s future – missing one day a fortnight a student will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10 they’ll have missed more than a year of school. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.
The table above shows the number of students late to school each day last week. Unfortunately, we still have many students coming late to school.
Help your class win the next Being on Time Matters award by arriving at school on time! Look out for the Everyday Counts page in this newsletter for information on school
attendance.
