An ultra-safe sulfur pit analyzer for monitoring H2SSO2 accumulation
The TLG-837 continuously measures the concentrations of H2S and SO2 in the headspace above a liquid sulfur pit Using the patented in situ DEMISTER sampling probe and a full-spectrum UV-Vis spectrophotometer this system provides extremely fast accurate response for prompt response to any dangerous buildup of H2S or SO2 which are early warnings for potential fires and explosions Keeping a vigilant watch on sulfur pit gases the TLG-837 keeps the entire plant safe

The Sulfur Pit Analysis Need
The liquid sulfur produced in the process of refining petroleum is often stored in a concrete lsquosulfur pitrsquo in the ground The vapor headspace above the liquid sulfur often contains H2S which is extremely toxic and explosive In order to ensure a safe operating environment this area needs to be continuously purged of H2S
To validate this purging process and provide round-the-clock safety real-time H2S measurement is required along with an alarm when the H2S concentration approaches its lower explosive limit (LEL) in air The SO2 measurement should also be incorporated in order to detect smoldering fires in the liquid sulfur since these sulfur fires tend to spray SO2 fumes upward a sensitive detector can recognize early warnings of spreading fire

The TLG-837 measurement cycle is instantaneous but it can be helpful to visualize it in stages
(1) The white light signal originates in the pulsed Xe lamp that functions as the light source
(2) The signal travels via fiber optic cable to the flow cell A collimator narrows the light beam
(3) The signal travels directly across the flow cell interacting with the continuously drawn process sample
(4) The signal exits the flow cell through a collimator now containing the distinct absorbance imprint of the current chemical composition of the sample
(5) The signal travels via fiber optic cable to the nova II
(6) The signal is dispersed by the holographic grating Each differentiated wavelength is focused onto a designated photodiode within the diode array The nova II provides this rich data to the HMI for real-time visualization of the absorbance spectrum

The key difference between the TLG-837 and other sulfur pit analyzers is the use of fiber optic cables we bring the light to the sample instead of bringing the sample to the light The toxic sample only needs to circulate through the probe and never enters the analyzer electronics enclosure

The Worldrsquos Safest Sulfur Pit Analyzer
Applied Analytics design centers on intrinsic safety The major safety flaw of other sulfur pit analyzers is that they bring the toxic sample fluid into the analyzer enclosure for analysis Not only does this practice expose the system electronics to higher corrosion effects it also poses a lethal threat if there is any leak in the instrument mdash especially inside a shelter mdash the human operator is placed at enormous risk
The key difference between the TLG-837 and other sulfur pit analyzers is the use of fiber optic cables we bring the light to the sample instead of bringing the sample to the light The toxic sample only needs to circulate through the probe and never enters the analyzer electronics enclosure

raquo No danger of leaks inside the analyzer because the sample gas does not enter the analyzer enclosure
raquo No need for a shelter mdash system designed for outdoor environment
raquo Custom fiber length up to 6 meters allows for distance between analyzer and probe
raquo User can safely perform service on the analyzer while process is running mdash no exposure to sample gas
raquo Digital link (eg Modbus) provides additional process data during any upset conditions mdash personnel do not need to physically visit the analyzer during potentially dangerous situations
raquo Full port 2rdquo ball valve sealsunseals the process allowing user to isolate and remove probe while process is running
