CAYMAN ISLAND DIVING
North Wall
The North Wall of Grand Cayman is a world class spectacular
sheer drop off boasting fabulous sponge and coral life as a
backdrop to the other reef residents. Commonly spotted in the
deep cobalt blue waters are eagle rays flying in ‘fighter jet’ for-
mation of up to seven animals. This is also the most likely loca-
tion to spot a shark and is home to a myriad of other critters in-
cluding turtles, lobster, eels, octopus and a vast variety of fish
from tiny to huge! Stare into the abyss below as you hover along
the side of the wall – you feel as though you are flying! As you
roll over and gaze upwards you will see the abundant reef fish
backlit by sunshine and silhouetted at the top of the precipice
awaiting your return to the shallows. Once you move up to the
top of the wall to complete your multi-level profile make sure to
check under ledges and coral heads for hiding animals – you
never know what you might find. As you hover at your safety
stop remember to keep looking down as the parade of wildlife
will continue to entertain you as you wait to return to gravity!
Most days on the North side you will dive the ‘top of the wall’ as
your second/shallow dive. This affords more opportunity to en-
counter large pelagics once again and enjoy the view of the
drop-off from the top. In addition there are some shallow reef
sites known for large turtles and lovely macro life. Expect to
move slowly and search for tiny animals like anemone shrimp,
decorator crabs and leopard flatworms to name a few! The slow-
er you cruise, the more little creatures will appear right before
your eyes!
Here are a description of 3 of the

Scubapro MK11/C370 Regulator
The Mk11 First Stage Regulator is the per-
fect choice for the recreational diver who
wants the advantage of a diaphragm first
stage for use in temperate waters. Dia-
phragm-based first stages are environmentally sealed so that water
cannot enter the inner mechanism. This first stage comes standard
with the Thermal Insulating System (TIS), which keeps your first stage
from freezing up and malfunctioning in cold water conditions. Addi-
tionally, its over-balanced diaphragm first stage design gives you better
breathing performance at greater depths. he C370 is the newest addi-
tion to Scubapro's family of high performance second stages. Fully ad-
justable, the C370 includes a user adjustable inhalation effort control
knob along with a small coaxial dive/pre-dive lever. The new air bal-
anced C370 is lightweight, breathes easy, offers full user controls and
delivers effortless airflow.

TIME FOR A SCUBA REFRESHER COURSE?
Sure, you have a certification card, but
that doesn’t always mean you’re feel-
ing ready to dive. If it has been awhile
since your last dive, you may be in
need of a PADI ReActivate scuba re-
fresher program. Here are seven signs
to look for.
You can’t find your C-card.
Sure, someone from the dive center can call PADI® to confirm you’re
certified, but if you can’t find the card, that’s a sign that perhaps too
much time has passed since your last dive.
You finally have a vacation planned and you want to dive.
You could spend precious time at your destination catching up on
skills — or you could do that work with your hometown dive center.
It’s been a while since your last dive, and you will be diving with
your kids.
“A lot of times, we are dealing with families that got certified togeth-
er,” says Lyn Fishman, owner of Mid-Atlantic Scuba Center located in
Bensalem, PA, outside Philadelphia. “One thing I remind parents be-
fore they get in the water is that they are going to be responsible for
another person, and I ask if they feel up for it.”
If the answer is no, consider a refresher course.
Six to 12 months have elapsed since your last dive.
“One of the first questions we ask someone who is coming in to dive
is, “When is the last time you were in the water?” As for the answer,
we suggest a refresher if you haven’t been diving in six months, a
year, or longer.
The thought of putting your gear together makes you nervous.
If you’re struggling to remember just how the gear fits together, keep
in mind that the Divemaster can assist you — but it might also be time
for a refresher course.
You can’t remember when your last dive was.
If your last dive was more than a decade ago, you may need more
than just a refresher course.
REFRESHER COURSE CONTINUED
I start out by asking folks how long it’s been since their last dive.
“Then I ask about the time before they stopped diving. I ask them to
estimate how many dives they had before they stopped. For some
people, it’s been 15 years and they guess that they had maybe 10
dives before they stopped.” It’s always their choice, of course, but we
recommend taking a full course at that point. If you’re still unsure if
you need a scuba refresher, know that you always have the option of
hiring a private Divemaster to serve as a guide for you and/or your
buddy or family. But it’s a lot cheaper and times efficient to let us,
your local dive shop, take care of the refresher for you.
If you identify with any of the above, it might be time to call us and
schedule a Scuba Review/Refresher
