Welcome to the January to April, 2013 issue of At the MacKenzie. The new format of this publication and our recent shift to electronic mailings will help us bring a sustainable future to the MacKenzie. Limiting the amount of printing and mail-outs we do will eliminate unnecessary paper waste and help us to reduce costs.
If you are a MacKenzie Member who would prefer to continue receiving newsletters and invitations in the mail, please contact Jessica Bouvet at [email protected], or by phone at 306 584 4259. To check out the current electronic version of the newsletter online visit: http://issuu.com/mackenzieartgallery.
As Executive Director it is my pleasure to congratulate the MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers on their 50th anniversary and to wish the MacKenzie a happy 60th birthday! Please see page four for an overview of the exciting events and programs we have planned for the upcoming year.
On behalf of the Board and staff, we look forward to seeing you soon at the MacKenzie.

We have an excellent line-up of exhibitions and events planned with plenty of opportunities for you to join the festivities. How we
filled the Vault: Sixty Years of Collecting,
our major anniversary exhibition, will
open in May as the largest display of the
Permanent Collection since the MacKenzie
opened its doors at our current location
in 1990. Featuring approximately 300
works from a collection of over 4,000,
this exhibition will tell the story of the
Permanent Collection’s evolution over
the past 60 years. On May 16, 2013
we’ll host a Birthday Party celebrating
60 years of art and the opening of this
extensive exhibition.
This year we will also celebrate the 10th
anniversary of Regina Artist Trading Cards,
the 40th anniversary of Bazaart, and
the 50th anniversary of the MacKenzie
Gallery Volunteers. For families we’ll have
cupcakes and birthday-themed art activities
at the first Family Studio Sunday of each
month. In May an interactive resource
space, The Living Room, will open to the
public. Throughout the year we invite you
to participate in a number of community
visioning projects, submitting your ideas
for the future of the MacKenzie. Later
this year we will announce a revitalized
MacKenzie Membership program, bringing
you new opportunities to experience the
Gallery. With an entire year full of birthday
cheer there will be something for everyone
at the MacKenzie.
We look forward to celebrating 60 years of
art with you. Join the festivities by planning
your next visit at mackenzieartgallery.ca!

The presentation of The Synthetic Age: Fine Arts
Faculty at the University of Regina and First
Nations University of Canada provides an ideal
opportunity to reflect on the history of visual arts
education in Regina. A Tale of Two Faculties looks
back at the formative years from 1950 to 1980, when
competing visions of art made the University the
centre of a heated debate about the future of arts
education and its relationship to society at large.
A PERMANENT COLLECTION EXHIBITION ORGANIZED BY THE
MACKENZIE ART GALLERY WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE CANADA
COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS, SASKATCHEWAN ARTS BOARD, CITY OF
REGINA, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF REGINA.
The annual Department of Visual Arts Graduating Exhibition
presents the work of undergraduate students in the Fine Arts program
at the University of Regina. Work by the following graduating artists
will be featured: Melina Berthelet, Christopher Brown, Miranda Brown,
Aaron Davis, Kyle Duckerin, Chloe Dufour, Christopher Ebel, Kyla
Fehr, Helen Gauvin, Quinlan Greig, Zach Haddad, Gareth Harding-
Russell, John Kalyn, Bethany Leber, Nathan Petryshyn, Kyle Rask,
Samantha Ring, Brendan Schick, Melissa Strachan, Becky Thera, Anne
Viczko, Teiji Wallace-Lewis and Alana Zyla.
