DrillTronics
Equinor awarded Sekal third license April 2017 for the Semi-Submersible Songa Enabler and in January 2019 for the remaining 3 Transocean cat D rigs.
The First Use Report (Equinor) indicated increased efficiency (up to 12%) and operational consistency across all crews.
Equinor awarded Sekal the second license summer 2016
Equinor awarded Sekal the forth license October 2018 for the Mariner field in UK
Wintershall DEA awarded Sekal the fifth license December 2018 for the SeaDrillSemi-sub West-Mira
Transocean awarded Sekal the 9th license January 2019 for the Transocean Semi-sub Transocean Spitsbergen

Smart Auto ROP
/ Perform the automatic drilling of a stand./ Execute automatically ROP performance tests./ Control the WOB, RPM and flowrate to optimize
the ROP, cuttings transport, risk of drill-string vibration, risk of formation washouts while applying real time SafeGuards.
/ Automatic adjustments to formation strength and automatic management of the transition between formation layers.

Optimal slips-to-drilling and drilling-to-slips
/ To optimize and automate the «drilling to slips» and «slips to drilling» operation during a pipe connection.
/ Automatic function protected by DrillTronics safe guarding.
/ Automatically operate from drilling to slips. The system will calculate; minimum lift height, pump rate, rotation speed, trip speed and hook load.
/ Automatically operate from slips to drilling. The system will calculate; pump rate, rotation speed and trip speed.
/ An efficient and safe connection can always be performed in a uniform and consistent way across all crews.

System components
DrillTronics uses a topology with distributed nodes to improve stability, robustness and performance of the entire system./ An Administrative Client is installed both at the rig-
site and in a back-office and is used to monitor and maintain the system, including necessary configurations.
/ The Machine Control unit sends UDP datagrams to the Gateway PLC, while the Data Acquisition module reads UDP datagrams from the Gateway PLC.
/ The Wellbore Status unit is responsible for calculating the current state of the wellbore (temperature, pressure, cutting profiles etc.).
/ The Object Cache Backup unit is used for object cache backup. Every local object cache is made available on the object cache backup machine by a replication processes.
/ The Calculations Server unit is performing all the DrillTronics modelling calculations. In addition, the Wellbore Data Manager, which is responsible for maintaining the configuration data, is also running on this unit.
/ The Gateway PLC is a gateway to communicate with the DCS (Drilling Control System).

Sekal Case : Replay of a well that collapsed - #1
1. Mud density in at surface was 11,6 ppg2. While drilling, ECD was 12 ppg3. Highest collapse pressure was 11,462 ppg
3/30/2016 / 17 / Copyright © 2016 Sekal AS. All rights reserved.
4. ESD was assumed to be 11,6 ppg when pumps were shut off
5. Replay shows that this was not correct.§ ESD is calculated to 11.54 ppg due to
temperature effect§ ESD is now closer to collapse pressure
that anticipated
ESD 11.54ppg after circulating clean at TD (low ESD due to down-
hole temperature)
Sekal Case 3: Replay of a well that collapsed - #1
3/30/2016 / 18 / Copyright © 2016 Sekal AS. All rights reserved.
6. Started tripping out of hole with a speed of 24ft/min§ Replay showed that this brought ESD
down to 11,41 ppg causing a swab§ DrillExpect calculated max speed to be
10ft/min to avoid swabbing7. Well collapsed and the well was lost
§ High cost
Breaching swab limit with pulling speed > 10ft/min
