“Safety” is not a buzzword and Damage Prevention is not a fad. These are critical issues,
and they are especially important when considering the incredible amount of work that is
done around buried pipelines and utilities.
Beneath the soil lays a complex maze of facilities carrying petroleum products, electricity,
water, wastewater, natural gas, and communications. Every single day incidents occur
across the country that leave utilities damaged, property destroyed, and sometimes, lives
lost. Most companies who work around buried facilities fully understand the risks involved,
but solutions are not always simple.
The challenge faced by most contractors and facility owners is: How does one work safely
in today’s congested underground – while remaining both efficient and productive?
Badger is one solution changing the way companies approach the dangers of underground
construction. Hydrovac excavation is becoming an increasingly common sight on utility
installation and maintenance projects, as are the terms “potholing” and “daylighting”.
The hydrovac excavation process safely exposes buried utility lines to daylight – hence the
term “daylighting”. Badgers use pressurized water to break up the soil cover. As the ground
is precisely excavated, a powerful vacuum system simultaneously removes the debris and
pulls it into a large capacity storage tank onboard the truck.
The Badger Hydrovac System delivers a powerful combination of finesse and speed; it is
safe to use around sensitive buried utilities, has been proven to be more than ten times faster
than hand excavation, and up to 300% more productive than other vacuum excavation
equipment.
The Badger Hydrovac System has been designed from the ground up for safe excavating.
Tolerance testing has been completed on a wide variety of pipes and cables, and the results
of those tests form the basis of the Badger Hydrovac safe operating procedures.
Our industry-leading health and safety program meets the requirements set by major oil
and gas companies and large utilities, and provides crews with the guidance to complete
the work without incident. Having completed our due diligence, Badger is able to provide
customers with the added assurance that work will be done on time, and without incident.
Since 1992, Badger has been designing and building its own hydrovac technology, and
operating the equipment on job sites across the US and Canada. This invaluable field
experience provides Badger’s in-house engineering team with a steady flow of ideas for
continually improving both the efficiency and safety of the system.
As a result, the Badger Hydrovac System is the most efficient non-destructive vacuum
excavation equipment available today, far surpassing the productivity of other vacuum
equipment, especially air vac units. Therefore, in addition to improving safety, Badger’s
Hydrovac service can help customers increase productivity, reduce costs, and increase
margins.
Badger Hydrovacs have the capability to excavate at a distance of more than 600 feet from
the truck, enabling crews to work in areas with limited access. Whether inside a building,
or in a backyard, Badgers have the versatility to get to where the work is done.
Designed for extreme winter conditions, Badger Hydrovacs can excavate through any
depth of frozen ground. Our hydrovac’s key components are protected and heated, while
a coiled heater produces hot water for liquefying frozen ground.
We want you to consider us to be a tool in your toolbox. Badger has over 1000 hydrovac units
operating out of more than 110 field offices across the US & Canada. Our fleet size enables us
to quickly respond to service requests, and our fleet deployment results in reduced travel time.
Our managers devise the most appropriate solutions for each project, striving to add value to
each and every job. Get our managers involved in the planning phase of a project to maximize
your savings.
