Basic: Family, -ing words – week 6
Unit Objective: Students will be able to write and speak about everyday activities, correctly corresponding “to be” words with –ing verbs.
Vocabulary: -ing verbs, “to be” verbs: Cooking, cleaning, reading, studying, eating, drinking, reading, smiling, eating breakfast/lunch/dinner, washing dishes, listening to music, playing, watching TV, shopping, relaxing, working, laughing, standing
Monday Lesson Objectives: Materials
Review last week’s objectives as appropriate
Orally identify everyday actions
Correctly associate personal pronouns and match them with to be verbs
Use form present progressive tense of verb to be.

Activity Ideas:
To Be match: After reviewing the pronouns and corresponding “to be” verbs, Ss get nametags with either a pronoun or a “to be” verb. They have to find their match (another student); “I” should find “am” and stand together.
Action pictures: T shows action pictures on ELMO and notecards with the corresponding –ing verb. Students orally create sentences about the picture. T: What is she doing? Ss: She is cooking. Repeat for all pictures.
-ing worksheet - Ss cut out verbs and –ing mini cards. They should place them in the correct spots on the worksheet, then write the answers.

Activity Ideas:
Action Pictures – review pictures orally once on ELMO. Second time through, Ss can write sentences (high level) or words (low level) on white boards. Talk about what the mother, father, etc are doing in each picture if applicable.
Speaking: Today I am? Ss ask each other: “What are you doing today?” Ss answer one or many things. Go around the room.

Activity Ideas:
Charades – learners pick a word or picture and act out what they are doing. Other learners guess.
What are you doing? worksheet: T should model these questions prior to giving out the worksheet. Stress that “she” questions have “she” answers, etc.

Write about what is happening in a picture using PP

Activity Ideas:
Picture Writing - Together spell all of the –ing words on the board that are contained in the picture so students have a point of reference when writing. Class talks about the picture together. Ss write as much as they can about the picture.
